It was earlier this morning that we told you the candidates for the lead role in the new ‘Green Lantern’ movie had been widdled down to three.  Those were Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake, and Ryan Reynolds.  Well, evidently, the people behind the casting on this movie are big ‘Highlander’ fans, because they took the “there can be only one” mantra to heart.  Coming out the winner is Reynolds, who will now be serving double duty on the comic book front. The search to fill the lead role in the Martin Campbell-directed big screen adaptation of the comic series took months to come down to Reynolds. Negotiations on Reynolds’ part began on Friday after two rounds of screen tests were held. These included the aforementioned Cooper and Timberlake, and a fourth name we had not previously mentioned, Jared Leto.

Warner had holding options on all the actors. All but Reynolds’ expired on Monday. Reynolds’ would have expired today (Friday) had nothing come of it.

If this becomes finalized, which it is looking like it’s going to be, this will make Reynolds the first person to play two, lead characters in both a DC and Marvel-adapted film at the same time. Reynolds was recently seen as Deadpool in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine,’ a part that is being spun off for its own film. Reynolds also played vampire hunter, Hannibal King, in 2004’s ‘Blade Trinity.’  Reynolds was also previously attached to take the lead role in a feature film adaptation of DC’s ‘Flash.’  That deal, however, fell through.
