Fantasy Cast… Who should play ‘The Goon’ in a Live-Action Movie?

Hey, don’t go getting your panties all in a twist! There aren’t any plans (that I know of) for a live-action movie in the works, but with the animated adaptation of Eric Powell’s awesome comic book series being pieced together, I figured a purely speculative discussion of a live-action version needed to be addressed… you know, just fer tha’ Helluvit!

So, even though the animated film is still essentially in the “script” phase, according to IMDBPro, what is known is that David Fincher is producing the project. How cool is that? We could talk about who should direct ‘The Goon’ but it’s too early for that and honestly, not as much fun as speculating on who would best fit the roles of Franky and The Goon in a live-action movie.

I will gladly be the first to admit that ‘The Goon’ will not be a story easily translated into a live-action film. The two main characters alone, The Goon and Franky, would have to be handled very carefully. The stylistic element works extremely well in the books, but to try and convey it “exactly” in the movie may prove to be a dicey proposition.

It can be done, however, if you recall Warren Beatty’s ‘Dick Tracy’ (1990) and how well they handled the movie’s villains, especially for the time. Although, one of the great elements of ‘The Goon’ is all the cool characters and creatures… i.e. the Zombie Priest, the slack jaws, The Mudds, Buzzard, Dr. Hieronymous Alloy and all the big nasty monsters The Goon encounters.

The Goon Franky

But, I digress. The focus of this discussion is centered on The Goon and his side-kick (don’t call him that to his face) Franky. These are visually two very different characters. Both of whom carry a tough, hard as nails exterior but The Goon has an inner essence that would require some acting talent. So, who should we place on the casting block?
