THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION is Coming Back to Movie Theaters September 22nd, 24th and 25th

The Shawshank Redemption began as only a moderate success at the box office, but went on to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars®, and defied the odds to become one of the most indelible movies in film history. It’s also one that most moviegoers have never seen on the big screen. The Shawshank Redemption will return to movie theaters nationwide for three days only, September 22, 24 and 25, to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Since premiering in October 1994, it has been elevated as a modern day classic and has held the No. 1 ranking on IMDb’s user-generated Top 250 list for more than a decade.

Fathom Events presents the 25th anniversary of The Shawshank Redemption as part of the annual TCM Big Screen Classics series. Adding to the special big screen return, TCM Primetime Host Ben Mankiewicz will provide exclusive commentary before and after the feature.

THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION Screening This Weekend Midnights at The Tivoli

THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION plays this weekend (April 26th and 27th) at the Tivoli (6350 Delmar Boulevard)as part of their Reel Late at the Tivoli Midnight series.

But what is it about THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION that touches so many people? It’s not hard to see why so many people avoided it during its theatrical run. An innocent man is sent to a grim prison, only to slowly but surely begin to buck the system. It’s hardly the stuff of movie matinees. And, although audiences were not particularly averse to ultra-violence (this was the year of PULP FICTION after all), prison movies in general are considered to be more realistic, and therefore harder to stomach, than films with a more comic-book approach. But today, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who hasn’t seen it and very few who don’t love it. Now, you’ll have the chance to see it again in all its big-screen glory when it plays at the Tivoli this weekend!
