BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE – Review

Batman-V-Superman-Armored-Batsuit-Costume-Comic-Con

It’s the year of the comic book battles. And no, I’m not talking about DC vs. Marvel (though that’s a heated battle that has only gotten more spirited in recent months). Lines will be drawn in the sand and sides will form later this year in Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, but DC is the first to step into the ring with their own legendary battle. Two of the most iconic characters in comic book history have come together to see who can out slug the other. But in this doom and gloom follow-up to MAN OF STEEL, it’s an “orphan-off” more so than a punch-out.

Zack Snyder shows that the two men were born from the same cloth. Sure, Superman/Clark Kent is an alien from another world, but as many films and comics including MAN OF STEEL have effectively proven, Superman is as much of a conflicted man as he is a super-powered being. Batman/Bruce Wayne’s story is just as well-known, even though Snyder feels the need to kick off BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE with the iconic scene we have seen many times before that leads to Bruce becoming an orphan. That being said, Snyder and screenwriters David Goyer and Chris Terrio use this common thread of guilt-ridden and internally tormented orphans as an emotional background for the two sides. Unfortunately, the setup carries more emotional weight than the execution.

BvS (so not to waste so much space typing it out) shows so much in its lengthy 151 minute run time but says so little. Character arcs or nuances are left on the cutting room floor as the movie quickly jumps from scene to scene with very little room for any of it to really breathe or make an impact. Even worse, some of the character motives are left out all together, as in the case of Lex Luthor. Coming across as a guy who just graduated from college with a Psych degree and a big mouth wanting to talk all about it (not to mention having the ultimate face that you just want to punch), Jesse Eisenberg is so over the top that he’s practically soaring above Supes with his ridiculous incarnation of Luthor.

Henry Cavill has now earned the “S” on his chest after two films. Ever since the announcement of his casting, all eyes have been on Ben Affleck – not so quietly judging and igniting an endless amount of vitriol-filled articles. I’ve never had a problem with the man or his casting, and I think many critics after seeing the film will have so much more to complain about than Batfleck. He feels like Bruce Wayne. On the Bat-half of the spectrum, it’s so hard to judge because very little screen time is spent with Affleck wearing the cape and cowl. The suit looks great and he seems to wear it well, but even when he’s in full-on Batfleck mode, it’s so hard to understand what’s going on and really judge it because of the cinematography.

I didn’t think it was possible for action scenes to be both pitch black and yet obnoxiously bright. So much of the choreography and action is spent in the dark but punctuated with these bright flashes. The “blast” effect from the guns creates a strobe-like effect in a warehouse fight, not to mention overly bright explosions dance across the screen throughout the closing battle creating a disorienting feeling. Where I really noticed it was early on in the film during a car chase with the Batmobile. It was as if I was watching J.J. Abrams’ STAR TREK films. An exorbitant amount of lens flares combined with the “flash” of the guns firing at one another made it even more distracting than how intensely close the camera was to the movements. Didn’t we learn anything from the indecipherable zoomed-in action in BATMAN BEGINS?

You would think given the amount of time spent advertising the big fight between the brooding bros that the sequence would carry more of an impact. And yet it’s just as dull and forced as so many of the scenes in the film. The loud and proud score punctuates the brawl with drama, but it’s over so quickly that you practically forget that it even happened because they are fighting one second and then quickly making up the next – proving that this really is, indeed, an “orphan-off.”

Once again we are treated to a Bat flick on the big screen that fails to deliver the action from the comics. This is the 8th live-action film that Batman has appeared in during my lifetime, and there hasn’t been a really great… I’m talking spectacular… fight featuring Batman going toe to toe with an evildoer or group of henchmen. Each of the films have ranged from amazing to catastrophic, but the scenes that are so memorable about the great ones are never Batman in costume battling a villain. The best one might be the Bane fight in DARK KNIGHT RISES, but even that feels a little lackluster and without much consequence given how you know before it begins how it’s going to end. BvS sets out to deliver the very fight that has yet to be seen on the big screen. You would think given how superficial many of Snyder’s other films are that he would at least give Batman fans like myself not just a fair fight… but a memorable one – a fight for the ages. That is what all of the marketing has promised, right? And yet Snyder not delivering on what he set out to ultimately achieve is the least of the film’s problems. He’s already shown us two characters throwing each other through walls for 30 minutes in MAN OF STEEL. So, when we get 10 minutes of that in BvS, you are left to wonder: where is the memorable choreography and sequences that we saw in 300 and SUCKER PUNCH?

maxresdefault

There are two saving graces in the film and they both come in the form of new incarnations of characters we know and love. Alfred, Bruce’s trusted confidant and butler, ditches the suit and tie and stoic walk this time around and becomes the most hands-on version of the character we have seen on the big screen. Seeing him get his hands dirty working on the batmobile and controlling the batwing/bat-plane remotely from the cave is fresh and exciting. In fact, it’s one of the only exciting elements of the film – second only to the Amazonian warrior woman. Wonder Woman may not wield her golden lasso or shield very much in the film, but Gal Gadot gives her strength and power every time she’s on screen. Not to mention, the formal gowns she wears are stunning as they bring to mind the gold accents on her Wonder Woman suit. She acts as more of a mystery woman in the shadows throughout the film, but I have no doubt her presence will have fans awaiting her solo feature film next year.

BvS feels like a rushed job by DC. Say what you will about the “Marvel formula” and their constant teasing of the big baddie Thanos. At least with their series of films, they have set a groundwork to build epic showdowns and dramatic events. Watching Batman face Superman doesn’t feel dramatic or exciting. In fact, it’s the biggest yawn that Batman has brought out of me (even more so than the Schumacher days). Frank Miller gave Superman and Batman a reason to fight in his seminal comic series, “The Dark Knight Returns.” Snyder and company have simply lifted some of the visuals from that and other stories that comic fans will recognize but didn’t support it with a proper idea or motivation. DC seems to be taking a cue from Superman’s legendary bald foe – just because you have the money and can do what you want, doesn’t mean it’s right.

Tenacious Eats Presents ‘Super-8 Super Snacks’ Saturday at Wizard World Comic Con

supersnacks-560

If Christian Kane gets hungry this weekend at Wizard Works Comic Con, he’ll likely head over to the Tenacious Eats Presents Super-8 Super Snacks event Saturday at 2.

tampopo-61

We were going to show the Marvel Super-Heroes cartoon, it turns out there’s a moratorium on all things Marvel at this time (thanks a lot, Avengers!), but the show will go on!

Tenacious Eats “movies for Foodies’ is a one-of-a-kind event where food is prepared and plated in front of you while you watch a film on the big screen. We’ve covered many of the movie-dinners here at We Are Movie Geeks. Now we’ll be teaming up with Tenacious Eats this Saturday at Wizard World Comic Con for an event we’re calling Tenacious Eats Presents Super-8 Super Snacks. It will be from 2pm to 2:45pm in Room 106 at America’s Center

We will be showing a pair of the Max Fleischer SUPERMAN cartoons from the 1940’s

superman01

Superman’s original medium was, of course, comic books, and his second venue was a radio program that began in 1940. Superman’s first moving picture appearance, animated or live action, was in the series of cartoons produced by Max Fleischer in the 1940s. Their importance in making Superman publicly renown cannot be understated. With only the comic books Superman would have been popular with children in America, but the radio and cartoon serials made the character so well known that he was soon recognized by all of North America, and then the entire world. Thanks in part to these cartoons his fame would snowball to create his lasting success and international stardom. We’ll be showing two of these, THE MUMMY STRIKES and JUNGLE DRUMS at the Super-8 Super Snacks event at Wizard World Comic Con screened through an old-school Super-8 sound projector. Chefs Liz Schuster and Steve Schmidt of Tenacious Eats will serve food to the audience while the shorts are playing. Since we only have 45 minutes, this is sort of a mini version of what Tenacious Eats does several times a month at their ‘Movies for Foodies’ events, which usually run about four hours and include a feature film, five or six courses, cocktails with every course, an intermission, trivia with prizes, and live music. It will give attendees a taste of what Tenacious Eats is all about.

DrPhibes (99)

We’re also going to show a Vincent Price trailer reel, clips of Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood’s gonzo cross-dressing epic GLEN OR GLENDA and Russian animator’s Wladislaw Starewicz incredible 1932 short THE DEVIL’S BALL.

devilsball

Starewicz used every imaginable piece of scrap for this crazy 9-minute film : old shoes, chicken bones, utensils, broken glasses, dolls, monkeys, rats…nothing was off limits. THE DEVIL’S BALL is a bizarre, funny, and also eerie film that should be seen by anyone with even a passing interest in animation.

Tenacious Eats only works with locally produced food procured by them and hard-to-find ingredients imported from places that specialize in them. For each new film, the folks at Tenacious Eats write a new menu specific to that movie’s story. Sometimes the menu is literal and sometimes it is inspired interpretation. In all cases, each dining experience is different because each film is different. By integrating film and food, Movies for Foodies creates an original experience, a feast for the senses, an event that brings food and film, chefs and diners together.

NYCC 2013: Photo Recap

nycc-banner--560x225

As I try to do each year, here are 50 of my favorite pictures from NYCC. This photo recap shows some of the amazing costumes and incredible booths on display at this year’s convention. Since I only was able to attend the convention on Friday this year, many of the biggest events and costumes were not captured since they tend to occur on Saturday & Sunday. Still, I think this gives a pretty good idea of what it was like to attend this year’s NYCC!

Which one is your favorite?

Ben Affleck Talks BATMAN On Jimmy Fallon Show

benaffleck

“I’m so excited,” said Oscar-winner Ben Affleck on becoming Batman during Monday evening’s interview on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

On August 22nd of this year, Warner Bros. Pictures revealed that they had found their new superhero in the director who months earlier had won them a Best Picture Oscar with ARGO.

Even with all the internet flack he’s received, Affleck seemed generally enthusiastic while talking with Fallon on taking on the role of the Caped Crusader in Zack Snyder’s untitled movie, pretty resilient to the jabs, “I’m a big boy,” and if the studio will try the true litmus test – Comic Con.

For those of us who remember the pre-internet days, all this hoopla is a mere drop in the bucket by comparison to Tim Burton’s BATMAN and the casting of Michael Keaton (still my favorite).

A February 1989 NY Times article laid out the uncertainties of casting the comedian and fan reactions.

Yet even before shooting began at London’s Pinewood Studios last fall, ”Batman” generated more anger than anticipation among the comic book hero’s fans – the hard-core audience for any film such as this. In a massive letter-writing campaign, objections were raised over the studio’s emphasis on this high-concept Batman and the refusal to make a serious square-jawed film out of one of the most popular – and psychologically complex – comic book characters.

The controversy, which erupted in the front pages of The Wall Street Journal and numerous trade publications, focused on the casting of Mr. Keaton, best known as the anarchic prankster in last year’s comedy hit ”Beetlejuice,” as the vengeful vigilante, and the choice of Tim Burton, the ”Beetlejuice” creator and former Disney animator, as the film’s director. The suspicion voiced by hundreds of angry fans was that ”Batman” would be a campy send-up similar to the self-parodying but hugely popular 1960’s television series.

”I’m at risk with Michael [ Keaton ] and Tim [ Burton ] . The image of Batman is a big male model type, but I wanted a guy who’s a real person who happens to put on this weird armor. A guy who’s funny and scary. Keaton’s both. He’s got that explosive, insane side.” said producer Jon Peters.

Read the rest of the article HERE.

Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder’s as-yet-untitled project—bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director’s vision of their universe, which he established in MAN OF STEEL.

MAN OF STEEL

Last month’s surprise announcement of the casting and new movie featuring both Superman and Batman created a wave of excitement and immediately fueled discussion and debate—among fans as well as in the media—about Affleck putting on the cape and cowl of Bruce Wayne’s alter ego.

Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, who will reprise the role of Superman/Clark Kent. The film will also reunite MAN OF STEEL stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

The studio has slated the film to open worldwide on July 17, 2015 with production beginning in 2014.

“I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you.”

Ready for this?

On the heels of the worldwide success of “Man of Steel,” director Zack Snyder is bringing together the two greatest Super Heroes of all time – Batman and Superman – for the first time on the big screen. The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

The current hit, “Man of Steel,” has taken in more than $630 million at the worldwide box office to date, and climbing. Along with its star, Henry Cavill, the upcoming film brings back Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. The new Batman has yet to be cast.

Snyder is co-writing the story with David S. Goyer, who will then pen the screenplay. Production is expected to begin in 2014, with an anticipated release date in Summer 2015.

Silverman stated, “Zack Snyder is an incredibly talented filmmaker, but beyond that, he’s a fan first and he utterly gets this genre. We could not think of anyone better suited to the task of bringing these iconic Super Heroes to the screen in his own way.” Kroll added, “We are thrilled to be back in business with Zack and his team on this next movie. The success of ‘Man of Steel’ is a wonderful testament to the love and support that both fans and new audiences, worldwide, have for these characters. We are very excited to see what Zack has in store for all of us.”

Diane Nelson, President, DC Entertainment, noted, “Superman and Batman together on the big screen is a dream come true for DC fans everywhere. All of us at DC Entertainment could not be more excited for Zack’s continuing vision for the DC Universe.”

Zack Snyder, who made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con today, breaking the news to audiences there, later said, “I’m so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter. Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world.”

The new film brings back Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder as producers. This time, Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are serving as executive producers, along with Benjamin Melniker and Michael E. Uslan.

Thomas offered, “Whilst our ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy is complete, we have every confidence that Zack’s fresh interpretation will take the character in a new and exciting direction. His vision for Superman opened the door to a whole new universe and we can’t wait to see what Zack does with these characters.”

The film is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, and Batman characters created by Bob Kane, published by DC Entertainment.

In addition to the Superman and Batman team-up movie, other Super Hero films reportedly on the horizon are The Flash in 2016 and Justice League in 2017!

DC Comics and Warner Bros. Celebrate MAN OF STEEL Movie With Original Copy of ACTION COMICS #1

DC Entertainment And Warner Bros. Host Superman 75 Party At San Diego Comic-Con

The world of comics was abuzz at Comic-Con International: San Diego as the Holy Grail of comic books — an original copy of ACTION COMICS #1, featuring the first appearance of the world’s most iconic Super Hero, Superman — made a rare appearance last night as the guest of honor, along with Man of Steel star Henry Cavill and director Zack Snyder, at a party celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Superman. Widely considered to be the genesis of the superhero genre, ACTION COMICS #1 — an original on loan from the personal collection of musician Jack White (The White Stripes, The Racounteurs, The Dead Weather) arrived under heavy security to the star-studded Comic-Con event sponsored by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Entertainment.

“There wouldn’t be a Comic-Con without ACTION COMICS #1 and Superman so it’s fitting that we’re honoring the comic book that started it all here in San Diego,” stated Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment. “It’s been a year filled with milestones for Superman – while we celebrate 75 years of entertainment from the world’s first Super Hero, the global success of Man of Steel proves Superman is more relevant than ever.”

Famed musician Jack White loaned his original, 1938 issue of ACTION COMICS #1 to DC Entertainment for use at the event, stating, “ACTION COMICS #1 is an important piece of history. Instead of keeping my comic locked inside a vault I want to share it with fans during key moments like Superman’s 75th anniversary, much like fine art is shared in museums.”

ACTION COMICS #1 made a grand entrance at the event, complete with a Brinks security truck delivery following a hand-off from Tornado Comics, a comic retailer that helped facilitate the appearance in San Diego. The comic was displayed in a special, “speeding bullet-proof” display case made specifically for the event, allowing guests to get an up-close look at what many consider to be the most valuable comic of all time.

In addition to the landmark appearance of ACTION COMICS #1, the San Diego celebration honoring Superman was a dazzling event at the Hard Rock Hotel, with guests including Man of Steel star Henry Cavill, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder, DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson, DC Entertainment Co-Publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee, and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, among many others. The event is part of a year-long celebration honoring 75 years of Superman that includes a commemorative logo, and a new, animated short that pays homage to Superman and the many iterations of the Super Hero throughout his 75 years. The animated short is produced by Zack Snyder and will be released later this year.

Superman fans attending Comic-Con International: San Diego can attend a special panel “Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment: Superman’s 75th Anniversary Celebration” on Saturday, July 20 at 4:15pm in room 6A. Panelists include Grant Morrison (All-Star Superman), Tim Daly (Superman: The Animated Series), Jim Lee (DC Entertainment Co-Publisher and artist for SUPERMAN UNCHAINED), Jack Larson (the original Jimmy Olsen from Adventures of Superman), talent from Man of Steel, and many more.

Warner Bros. Entertainment & DC Entertainment Celebrate Superman’s 75th With New Logo For Milestone Anniversary

SM75_Vert_Preferred_Color_FINAL

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of Superman, Warner Bros. Entertainment and DC Entertainment have revealed plans befitting one of the most popular and enduring Super Heroes of all time.

To honor Superman – the world’s first Super Hero – for reaching such an incredible milestone, the companies are kicking off a year of celebration including a new commemorative Superman 75th anniversary logo as well as an animated short tribute chronicling the rich 75-year history of the character, it was announced today by Kevin Tsujihara, Chief Executive Officer, Warner Bros. Entertainment.

First appearing in the comic book Action Comics #1, dated June 1938, Superman quickly became a cultural icon, winning fans around the world in live-action and animated form in nearly every known entertainment medium. In feature films, TV shows, radio, video games, publishing and merchandise, he has battled some of the greatest villains ever created in his endless pursuit of truth, justice and the American way.

Tsujihara stated, “Warner Bros. is privileged to be home to the global Superman brand, which has had an unparalleled impact on popular culture for 75 years. We are proud to commemorate this milestone with exciting entertainment across the entire Studio and across the globe, ensuring this enduring icon reaches new generations of audiences.”

DC Entertainment and the Studio’s various divisions, including Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Animation, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, will mark this extraordinary anniversary with a range of highly anticipated events and products, kicking off with the release of the much anticipated summer-blockbuster MAN OF STEEL.

The new animated short, currently in production, is being produced by Zack Snyder and pays homage to Superman and many iterations of the Super Hero throughout his 75 years. A sneak peek of this short is planned for Comic-Con International: San Diego in July and the finished version will debut late summer.

The new commemorative logo takes its cue from the iconic Superman costume, featuring predominantly blue coloring with a splash of red and highlights a bold silhouette of the Man of Steel with his cape waving behind him and the block-style lettering of “75 Years.” The mark will be rolled out by all the divisions on Superman-related promotions, products and initiatives. DC Entertainment will be the first to feature the new logo on the upcoming Superman Unchained comic book by artist Jim Lee and writer Scott Snyder, on sale Wednesday, June 12.

“Superman is undeniably the greatest Super Hero in the world and likely the most influential comic book character of all time,” according to Diane Nelson, President, DC Entertainment. “In addition to being an enduring presence in pop culture for the last 75 years, he continues to be a commanding global icon. DC Entertainment and all of Warner Bros. look forward to celebrating this important, year-long anniversary for Superman.”

In tandem with the various special celebrations comes the release of this summer’s tent pole action adventure feature “Man of Steel,” opening in theaters nationwide June 14.

Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group, stated, “Superman is a larger-than-life figure, making the big screen the perfect place to experience his adventures, and ‘Man of Steel’ delivers with first rate story-telling that is broadly entertaining. It couldn’t be more fitting that the centerpiece of our summer slate hits theaters during this commemorative year.”

“It’s a great honor for all of us involved in ‘Man of Steel’ to carry on the tradition of Superman for longtime fans as well as a new generation of moviegoers,” director Zack Snyder said. “I’m so excited to share the movie with them and to be a part of this celebration.”

Michael Shannon To Star As General Zod In The New Superman MAN OF STEEL Movie

BURBANK, CA, April 10, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Michael Shannon will star in the role of General Zod in director Zack Snyder’s new Superman film, titled MAN OF STEEL.

Snyder stated, “Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”

As General Zod, Shannon will go toe-to-toe with Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman in the film. The main cast also includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent.

Michael Shannon was honored with an Academy Award® nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Sam Mendes’ “Revolutionary Road,” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. He will next be seen in Sony Pictures Classics’, “Take Shelter,” from director/writer Jeff Nichols.

All I can say is “Kneel Before Zod” had better show up somewhere in the new version.

Zack Snyder Finds His Lois Lane In Amy Adams For SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL Film

Lots of new things going on with Zack Snyder’s SUPERMAN movie which begins shooting later this summer.

First, THE HERO COMPLEX/LA Times broke the news that three-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams will play journalist Lois Lane. Adams was recently nominated for an Academy Award for her work in David O. Russell’s THE FIGHTER and was previously in JULIE & JULIA, ENCHANTED, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN and JUNEBUG.

“There was a big, giant search for Lois,” Snyder said. “For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”

Snyder declined to discuss the precise prominence of Lois in the story or any plot details about the film but he said the role is “a linchpin” to the project and that he considers it essential that Lois – a Roosevelt-era creation – arrives on screen in 2012 with contemporary appeal and spirit.

“It goes back to what I’ve said about Superman and making him really understandable for today. What’s important to us is making him relebant and real and making him empathetic to today’s audience so that we understand the decisions he makes. That applies to Lois as well. She has to be in the same universe as him [in tone and substance].”

Adams will star alongside Jason Segel in THE MUPPETS movie from Walt Disney Studios on November 23rd. As was recently announced, Kevin Costner will play Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane will play his wife, Martha Kent and the film’s star, Henry Cavill, will play the new Clark Kent/Superman.

Second, Production Weekly posted on their site a preview of the latest films in the works. Most notably among today’s list is:

“Superman: The Man Of Steel” (aka “Autumn Frost”)

Very interesting. What are your thoughts on today’s SUPERMAN developments? Are you looking forward to the movie?

Slated for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Kevin Costner Cast As Jonathan Kent In Warner Bros. Pictures’ And Legendary Pictures’ Upcoming Superman Movie

Official Press Release From Warner Bros. Pictures:

(March 17, 2011 – Burbank, CA) – Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Kevin Costner will play Jonathan Kent, the father who raised Clark Kent as his own son, in the new Superman movie to be directed by Zack Snyder.

Snyder stated, “Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman. Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest super hero of all time.”
