Richard Gere Stars In First Trailer For NORMAN

Norman_Onesheet

Sony Pictures Classics’ has released the first trailer and poster for Academy Award nominee Joseph Cedar’s NORMAN starring Richard Gere.

The cast includes Richard Gere, Lior Ashkenazi, Michael Sheen, Steve Buscemi, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Dan Stevens, Hank Azaria, Josh Charles and Harris Yulin.

The new film by Academy Award nominated director Joseph Cedar (FOOTNOTE) is a comic and compassionate drama of a little man whose downfall is rooted in a human frailty all too easy to forgive: a need to matter.

Norman Oppenheimer (Richard Gere) lives a lonely life in the margins of New York City power and money, a would-be operator dreaming up financial schemes that never come to fruition. As he has nothing real to offer, Norman strives to be everyone’s friend, but his incessant networking leads him nowhere. Always on the lookout for someone willing to pay attention to him, Norman sets his sights on Micha Eshel (Lior Ashkenazi), a charismatic Israeli politician alone in New York at a low point in his career. Sensing Eshel’s vulnerability, Norman reaches out with a gift of a very expensive pair of shoes, a gesture that deeply touches Eshel. When Eshel becomes Prime Minister three years later, he remembers.

With his very real connection to the leader of a major nation, Norman is awash in the respect he has always craved. Flush with his newfound feeling of success, Norman attempts to use Eshel’s name to leverage his biggest deal ever: a series of quid pro quo transactions linking the Prime Minister to Norman’s nephew (Michael Sheen), a rabbi (Steve Buscemi), a mogul (Harris Yulin), his assistant (Dan Stevens), and a treasury official from the Ivory Coast. Norman’s kaleidoscopic plans soon go awry, creating the potential for an international catastrophe he must struggle to prevent.

NORMAN The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer hits theaters April 14th.

Celebrate National Boss’s Day With New Trailer For THE BOSS BABY

boss-baby

In celebration of National Boss’s Day, DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox have released the new trailer for THE BOSS BABY.

Check out the trailer below and share with the BOSS’s in your life.

DreamWorks Animation and the director of Madagascar invite you to meet a most unusual baby. He wears a suit, speaks with the voice and wit of Alec Baldwin, and stars in the animated comedy, DreamWorks’ THE BOSS BABY.

THE BOSS BABY is a hilariously universal story about how a new baby’s arrival impacts a family, told from the point of view of a delightfully unreliable narrator, a wildly imaginative 7 year old named Tim. With a sly, heart-filled message about the importance of family, DreamWorks’ THE BOSS BABY is an authentic and broadly appealing original comedy for all ages. Also features the voices of Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel, and Lisa Kudrow.

Directed by Tom McGrath, THE BOSS BABY hits theaters everywhere on March 31, 2017.

The Dude Abides Midnights at The Tivoli – THE BIG LEBOWSKI

bigl-header
“That rug really tied the room together!”
bigl1

THE BIG LEBOWSKI plays this weekend (September 9th and 10th) at the Tivoli as part of their Reel Late at the Tivoli Midnight series.

bigl3
Sometimes it’s easy to forget that THE BIG LEBOWSKI is a mystery, like the Coen brothers’ previous film, FARGO. Where Fargo is a thriller, THE BIG LEBOWSKI is a parody. Hidden in the jokes, satire, idiosyncratic characters, and musical numbers, the story is about a hippie “bum,” brilliantly portrayed by Jeff Bridges, who is unwittingly sucked into becoming a pawn in kidnapping and embezzling scams. As the narrator aka ‘The Stranger’ (Sam Eliot) succinctly puts it, “Sometimes there’s a man–I won’t say a hee-ro, ’cause what’s a hee-ro?–but sometimes there’s a man. And I’m talking’ about the Dude here–sometimes there’s a man who, well, he’s the man for his time’n place, he fits right in there–and that’s the Dude” The Dude takes us on an anti-hero’s journey. The Dude’s legal name happens to be the same as a bigwig whose trophy bride and former porn star, Bunny (Tara Reed), owes money to a porn producer whose goons confuse the two Lebowskis and whiz on the Dude’s room-tying-together rug. This sets off a chain of events that have entertained audiences now for 17 years.

bigl2

THE BIG LEBOWSKI was not a hit theatrically but it’s developed a cult reputation over the years and is now considered a beloved masterpiece with Bridge’s ‘The Dude’ being one of cinema’s all-time great eccentrics. But the entire cast: John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore and, most hilariously John Turturro in a cameo as Jesus, the uptight, pedophilic rival who represents everything The Dude dismisses, are at the top of their game. David Huddleston, who played the title character, passed away just last month. Don’t miss THE BIG LEBOWSKI when it screens at midnight this Friday and Saturday (September 9th and 10th) at The Tivoli

The Tivoli’s located at 6350 Delmar Blvd., University City, MO. Admission is a mere $8!

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2 – The Review

Dracula (Adam Sandler), Griffin the Invisible Man (David Spade), Murray the Mummy, Frank (Kevin James), Mavis (Selena Gomez), Wayne (Steve Buscemi) and Johnny (Andy Samberg) in Columbia Pictures' HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2.
A worthy animated sequel, HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2 has lively monster design, fangtastic visuals, great characters, gorgeous animation, and a top-notch voice cast. It’s a lot of fun and if you liked the first one, you won’t be disappointed with the follow-up. Drac (Adam Sandler) and his pack of classic Universal monsters are back and everything seems to be changing for the better at Hotel Transylvania. Dracula’s rigid monster-only hotel policy has relaxed, opening up its doors to human guests. But behind closed coffins, Drac is concerned that his red-headed half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn’t showing signs of being a vampire. So while his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez) is busy visiting her human in-laws (Megan Mullalley and Nick Offerman) with her husband Johnny (Andy Samburg), “Vampa” Drac enlists his monster friends Frank (enstein), Murray (the Mummy), Wayne (the Werewolf) and Griffin (the Invisible Man) to put Dennis through a “monster-in-training” boot camp. But Drac’s grumpy and very old, old-school dad Vlad pays a family visit to the hotel and when he finds out that his great-grandson is not a pure blood – and humans are now welcome at Hotel Transylvania – things get batty!

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2’s screenplay by Sandler and Robert Smigel isn’t strong, but the film’s big laughs, and there are a lot of them, come from the visual side of the equation. Director Genndy Tartakovsky is clearly a big fan of the animated works of Chuck Jones and Tex Avery, cartoon legends who knew that you could earn just as many guffaws from a silly walk, a smash cut, or a stylized facial expression as you could from a well-delivered ‘spoken’ joke. HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2 is full of funny fast-flying gags and non-stop monster visual puns that would make Forry Ackerman proud. It’s a kid’s movie but since the talent behind both HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA films clearly has such affection and respect for the Universal movie monsters, older Monster Kids like myself will appreciate it as well. Adam Sandler, much more likable here than his recent live-action stuff, provides the voice for Count Dracula as sort of a cross between Lugosi and a Jewish grandma. Cee-Lo is not back as Murray the Mummy, a good thing since his excruciating auto-tune rap songs in the first one were a low point. David Spade returns as an invisible man who gets big laughs pretending to have an invisible girlfriend. Kevin James is back as Frankenstein but isn’t given much to do while Steve Busceli as Wayne the Wolfman is a scene-stealer again. There are some welcome new characters in the sequel. Megan Mullalley and deadpan Nick Offerman voice Johnny’s California human parents and Drac’s Uncle Vlad is voiced by comedy legend Mel Brooks. The sequel seems a notch less witty than its predecessor (someone yelling at Drac “I like your chocolate cereal!” may be the only line I laughed out loud at), and the focus is more on the zany, out of control gestures made by the characters instead of a genuinely substantial plot, but I still recommend HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2.

Watch Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, Olivia Wilde & Jim Carrey In THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE Trailer

Longtime Vegas magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) face cutthroat competition from guerilla street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey) in this funny trailer for THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE. Afterwards check out the ingenious character, magician cards.

Hilarious! Everyone is playing it to the hilt! Oscar winner Alan Arkin works a lot – good for him! His next film – STAND UP GUYS with Al Pacino and Christopher Walken – comes out February and he was recently nominated for Golden Globe and Screen Actor Guild awards for his stellar work in Warner Bros.’ ARGO. Arkin is most likely assured of an Academy Award nod when the nominations are announced on January 10th. As far as this film, the killer wigs and crushed velvet suits on Carell and Buscemi put it over the top. Director Don Scardino’s comedy looks good and definitely on our 2013 list of must-sees.

In THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE, superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) have ruled the Las Vegas strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt’s growing ego. But lately the duo’s greatest deception is their public friendship, while secretly they’ve grown to loathe each other. Facing competition from magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey), whose cult following surges with each outrageous stunt, even their show looks stale. But there’s still a chance Burt and Anton can save the act – both onstage and off – if Burt can get back in touch with what made him love magic in the first place.

Starring Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, Olivia Wilde, Alan Arkin, James Gandolfini, Jim Carrey, and Jay Mohr, THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE materializes in theaters on March 15th.

Cee-Lo Green’s Murray The Mummy In HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA

From Sony Pictures Animation, take a look at this early design of Cee-Lo Green’s “Murray the Mummy” in HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA – in theaters September 21, 2012.

Welcome to the HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, Dracula’s (Adam Sandler) lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free to be the monsters they are without humans to bother them. On one special weekend, Dracula has invited some of the world’s most famous monsters – Frankenstein and his bride, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, a family of werewolves, and more – to celebrate his daughter Mavis’s 118th birthday. For Drac, catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem – but his world could come crashing down when one ordinary guy stumbles on the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis.

Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (TV’s “The Powerpuff Girls,” “Star Wars: Clone Wars”), Miley Cyrus, Andy Samberg, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon and David Koechner round out the voices for Columbia Pictures’ animated family comedy.
