New Megatron toy for ‘Transformers 2’

So, your questions about whether Megatron would be back (and what he would like like) are now answered… mostly. These front and back photos of the new action figure reveal the character’s design, minus his face/head, which has been “censored”. Not really much change… except, maybe a bigger gun?

The back of the packaging reveals some of the plot:

Rebuilt with parts cannibalized from other Decepticons, Megatron rises once again to lead his army. Though the Allspark destroyed him once, he can now feel its power coursing through his circuitry. It calls him to seize his rightful place as ruler over the puny planet on which he was imprisoned and destroyed, and from which he will launch his conquest of the Universe. Optimus Prime is all that stands between him and victory, and the Autobots Leader has done a poor job of hiding himself. At long last, Megatron knows exactly where his enemy is and he has power enough to destroy him.

What better way to cap off a weekend roadtrip to Chi-town to see ‘The Dark Knight’ at the Navy Pier IMAX than to also hit the Chicago Auto Show. Â  At this year’s Auto Show, General Motors used the stage to show off five Chevrolet cars that are playing important roles in the upcoming ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’.

Let’s get to the pictures: Continue reading ‘Transformers’ Exhibit Exclusive Recap

Chevy Auto Booth Showcasing ‘Transformers’

That sweet looking car you see above is the new Stingray Corvette Concept, which will be playing the character of Sideswipe in the upcoming ‘Transformer: Revenge of the Fallen’.

In fact, the Chevy booth at the Chicago AutoShow this weekend is going to be devoted to the characters from the film.   Dubbed “Autobots With Bow Ties” (referring to Chevy’s logo), the booth will include the production version of the 2010 Camaro as Bumblebee; the all-electric Volt, bowing in 2011, as Jolt; and small car concepts the Beat (to go into production as the Spark in 2011) and Trax as the twins Skids and Mudflap.

“Chevrolet is thrilled to again be part of one of the most anticipated movies in years,” said Ed Peper, GM North America vice president, Chevrolet. “‘Transformers’ gives us a great opportunity to connect with young people on their terms, with a dynamic, environmentally friendly image. The new characters represent the change going on in Chevy showrooms. From the exciting Camaro, the 21st century sports car, to the game-changing Volt, there’s more than meets the eye at Chevrolet today.”

“‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ goes way beyond the first film in terms of robot action and excitement,” said LeeAnne Stables, executive vice president of worldwide marketing partnerships at Paramount Pictures, the distributor of the film. “The new AUTOBOTS add to the storytelling, and these Chevy vehicles went with our filmmakers to locations all around the world. GM has again provided incredible support to the production team working on the movie.”

For the entire press release and to see the sweetness of the Stingray from about 600 different angles, check out Jalopnik.

Also, a special thanks to Michelle and Panda Hugger for bringing this to our attention.   You guys rock, but ‘The Dark Knight’ still rules!

Another Autobot(s) discovered thru Hasbro!

The other day we passed on some insight into the Autobot character called Sideswipe appearing in the new ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ revealed through a source connected to Hasbro (I assume). Now, yet another action figure(s) from the new movie have been “leaked” revealing that the Autobots may have their own answer to the “confirmed” appearance of the Decepticons Devastator, a giant robot that is formed when multiple green Decepticons (that are all types of construction vehicles) connect and join forces a la Voltron-style. [I know, for some of you this is a big DUH, but I’m sure there are a few people out there that don’t know the Transformers lore, right?]

The name of this giant robot fightin’ for the good guys is Superion. It is formed when five different Transformers combine, including… Silverbot, Airavor, Fireflight, Skydive and Air Raid. The interesting element to all of this is that two of the team members here are, shall I say… troublesome, in their own ways. This all sounds really cool, but I wonder if there’s going to be too much going on for one film. What do you think? Will this end up being a case of “too busy to succeed” or will it be hard core? How do you feel about, not only Devastator, but also Superion being in the movie? Which Autobots/Decepticons would you like to see make appearances? [You cannot pick the Dinobots… that’s my pick!] Let us know your opinions by leaving your comments on the post.

Hasbro’s Action Figure gives peek at Sideswipe design

Here’s an interesting glimpse into one of the new Autobot characters that is apparently going to show up in ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’. Sideswipe was originally a Lamborghini, but it was announced in August 2008 that a specially designed Corvette concept car may have a role in the sequel. Now, thanks to the report below, it seems Hasbro has an action figure of sideswipe as the conceptual Corvette.

[…a user at TF08.net has posted a photo of Hasbro’s figure that gives you a good look at what the robot will look like in Michael Bay’s film, opening in conventional and IMAX theaters on June 26.]

‘Transformers 2’ … Two New Posters

Nothing super special, but still… two new posters for the coming sequel, ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’. The torso shot poster of Optimus Prime is kinda nice. The other, darker head-shot poster of Optimus has a curiously “darker” tone to it… sort of makes you wonder a little about what his role in the next movie will be, exactly?
