“Gentleman, you had my curiosity… but now you have my attention.”
The first trailer has arrived for director Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz and Leonard DiCaprio. Be on the lookout for the original Django, Franco Nero.
Whereas INGLORIOUS BASTERDS was WWII in the form of a Spaghetti Western, this first teaser for DJANGO UNCHAINED feels like a Western with overtones of the blaxploitation films of the 1970’s. There’s no denying it’s a well cut trailer and no doubt a film to be reckoned with come Awards season.
Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award®-winnerJamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive. Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.
Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival…
Written and directed by Academy Award®-winner Quentin Tarantino, DJANGO UNCHAINED is produced by Stacey Sher, Reginald Hudlin and Pilar Savone. The executive producers are Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Michael Shamberg, Shannon McIntosh, and James Skotchdopole.
DJANGO UNCHAINED will be released in the U.S. on December 25, 2012, and internationally by Sony Pictures.
With MLB in full swing and fans buzzing about the NHL playoffs, concerned that you’re not up to speed with the latest movie news? Not to worry because here’s the first teaser poster for DJANGO UNCHAINED.

Praised with “4 stars,” (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times), Tarantino’s feature film JACKIE BROWN earned a 1997 Oscar® nomination for supporting actor Robert Forster (Mulholland Drive), three Golden Globe nominations (including Best Musical/Comedy) and an NAACP Image Award nomination for Pam Grier’s performance. An all-star cast joins Grier and Forster, including Samuel L. Jackson, Robert DeNiro, Michael Keaton and Bridget Fonda in Tarantino’s adaptation of the novel by Elmore Leonard (3:10 to Yuma, Out of Sight).
A sexy flight attendant (Grier) is caught in a plot between the police and an arms dealer, and everyone’s looking for the payoff. There are six unlikely players on the trail for a big score – a half million dollars in cash. But alliances are shaky when its unclear who is playing and who is getting played.
JACKIE BROWN is not my favorite from Tarantino’s vault, but it’s still a damn good film. Don’t get me wrong, I like the film, but this is a bit slower in pace than his other films… to me anyway. The film is not cut the way Tarantino’s other films are, so it’s often forgotten about. Still, this film is worth a look. Despite how the film is cut, the classic Tarantino wit, sarcasm, and violence are all present. Grier, as always, is impeccable as Jackie Brown. I certainly wouldn’t mess with her! Add the star-studded cast – Samuel L. Jackson, Robert De Niro, Bridget Fonda, Robert Forster, and Michael Keaton – and this film is a force to be reckoned with. The soundtrack, as always, is amazing. I could ramble on and on about this film, but this film has been reviewed a million times over, so let’s get to the review of the Blu-Ray!
Tarantino made sure that this film was presentable, and that this Blu-Ray is packed with lots of extra’s for the fans!
VIDEO:
The 1080p transfer to 1.85:1 film is beautifully done. To date, this is Tarantino’s only use of 1.85:1 framing for an entire film. The colors are much brighter than the dvd, and the picture is much more crisp and vibrant.
Video codec: MPEG-4 AVC
Video resolution: 1080p
Aspect ratio: 1.85:1
Original aspect ratio: 1.85:1
AUDIO:
Crisp and clear, viewers can now experience JACKIE BROWN like never before. The dialog sounds top notch, and is complimented by an impeccable soundtrack. There are a few spots that sound off, or even a bit lost, but it doesn’t effect the viewing experience for the film as a whole.

pulp /p lp/ n.
1. A soft, moist, shapeless mass of matter.
2. A magazine or book containing lurid subject matter and being characteristically printed on rough, unfinished paper.
Called “one of the most wanted Blu-ray titles of all time” (IGN) and ranked as such on numerous critics’ lists, Pulp Fiction is “nothing less than a cultural phenomenon” (Moviemaker Magazine). The film was honored with an Academy Award® for Best Original Screenplay (1994) and earned seven total nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Quentin Tarantino.
A pair of low-rent hit men, Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson), are sent out to collect a stolen briefcase for their mob boss employer, Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames). Having proven himself worthy, Wallace then entrusts Vincent to entertain his wife, Mia (Uma Thurman), while he is out of town. Meanwhile, Wallace has paid off aging boxer Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) to throw his next fight. The lives of these wildly entertaining characters intertwine with unexpected and violent consequences.
I don’t really think I need to tell you how outstanding this film is. I mean, if you don’t know the beauty that is PULP FICTION… we can’t be friends! So, let’s just jump into the meat and potatoes of the Blu-Ray.
VIDEO:
Holy moly! They did this 1080p transfer to 2.35:1 film right! This film looks flawless from start to finish! When the film was released on DVD in 2002 there were some issues, but no more. This film is stunning on blu-ray… A real treat for the eyes!

5 Deleted Scenes With Intro’s by Quentin Tarantino: Quick and to the point, Tarantino gives a brief intro to each of the five deleted scenes. I mean, who doesn’t want to hear why these scenes were cut from the man himself?
The one thing missing is an audio commentary, which would have been nice. I can understand why they wouldn’t include it though. Adding commentary now, after all that has been said about this film, would be sort of pointless. Still, it would be an interesting addition for fans. PULP FICTION on Blu-Ray gives viewers a bountiful selection of extras and features. This film has stood the test of time. It’s wit, narrative crime story, and beautiful cinematography are just as relevant and appealing today as it was in 1994, when the film was first released. This is a great addition to any Blu-Ray library!

The LA Times is sadly reporting that director Quentin Tarantino’s longtime film editor, Sally Menke, who went hiking with her dog amid the extreme heat Monday, was discovered dead early Tuesday morning by searchers in Beachwood Canyon.
Menke was a nominated for an Oscar twice in editing for PULP FICTION and just recently on INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS.
Award-winning film editor Sally Menke, 56, worked on such movies as PULP FICTION, KILL BILL and JACKIE BROWN.
Menke had gone hiking in the morning, and her friends alerted police after she failed to come home.
Search dogs, an LAPD helicopter and officers from patrol units spent hours in Griffith Park searching for her.
Her locked car was found in a Griffith Park parking lot. Menke’s dog was found alive, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The sources, who spoke on the condition that they not be named because the investigation was ongoing, said Menke’s body was found at the bottom of a ravine near 5600 block of Green Oak Drive.
No cause of death was immediately reported, and it’s unclear whether the heat was a factor.
[Updated at 8:42 a.m.: LAPD Lt. Bob Binder said Menke and a hiking buddy set out about 9 a.m. to hike a trail in Bronson Canyon, in the shadows of the Hollywood sign. An hour later, Menke’s partner decided to turn back. Menke and her Labrador retriever continued on.
That was the last time she was reported seen. Friends and family contacted authorities about 4 p.m.
First on scene were officers with the city’s General Services Department, which patrols the park. Searchers with the LAPD Metro Division and Los Angeles Fire Department were called in around 6 p.m.Her family and friends aided in the search.
Menke’s body was found just after 2 a.m. at the bottom of a ravine near the 5600 block of Green Oak Drive in Bronson Canyon.
Her was dog sitting next to her body, which was about a football field’s length from nearby homes.
Ed Winter, assistant chief of the L.A. County Coroner’s office, said there did not appear to be a jump in deaths Monday because of the extreme heat.
Sources familiar with the death investigation believe Menke became disoriented and collapsed, and the weather conditions contributed to her death. Winter said the coroner’s office is trying to determine whether the heat played a role in Menke’s death.]
EW posted this video in their lovely tribute to Menke. Tarantino “was such a fan of her as a person that he routinely assembled “Hi Sally” reels (included on the extras of many of his DVDs) where the cast and crew would begin each take by looking into the camera and giving her a shout-out she’d see months later to cheer her up in the editing room and push her to forge ahead.”
Quentin Tarantino has been saying for years how he wants to do a Western, and, save for the spaghetti Western style of KILL BILL VOl. 2 and the small role he played in SUKIYAKI WESTERN DJANGO, that goal has yet to be achieved. However, that isn’t stopping the auteur from talking about the project and divulging what his vision for it could be. While lunching with Rush & Molloy of the NY Daily News, Tarantino had this to say about the vision for his “Western” project:
I’d like to do a Western. But rather than set it in Texas, have it in slavery times. With that subject that everybody is afraid to deal with. Let’s shine that light on ourselves. You could do a ponderous history lesson of slaves escaping on the Underground Railroad. Or, you could make a movie that would be exciting. Do it as an adventure. A spaghetti Western that takes place during that time. And I would call it ‘A Southern.’
This would certainly be somewhat along the same lines as his idea to make a feature film adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s 40 LASHES LESS ONE, a project that Tarantino has been talking about since all the way back in 2000. Nothing much has come from that project being on his plate since 2007, so it could very well be dead in the water.
Tarantino is a man who likes deciding between any number of projects, but the idea of him doing a Western has to come to fruition soother rather than later. Some were speculating KILL BILL VOL. 3 might be next on his plate, but I don’t see that coming to be for a few years, especially if it follows the intended storyline of Vernita Green’s daughter coming after The Bride for revenge.
Of course, this news from The NY Daily could just be Tarantino spit-balling ideas. That’s something he likes to do, also, and it wouldn’t surprise anyone to never hear about this slavery Western idea ever again. Time will tell.
