New Image & Comic Con Panel Photos From THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN

Paramount Pictures has released another new image from the upcoming THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN. Have you seen the trailer for the film from Director Steven Spielberg?

Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson spoke at the “Tintin” panel at Comic-Con in San Diego, CA on Friday, July 22, 2011. The latest footage of the film was met with positive enthusiasm and according to THR, worries on the CGI, European based movie were squashed.

The extended footage shown, most of which consisted of Tintin interacting with a source, then later with Captain Haddock, smacked those concerns aside. And the action scenes had a propulsive feel to them, also impressive.

THR also went on to report:

Spielberg also confirmed The Hollywood Reporter’s story from June 15 about a fourth Jurassic Park movie. (“Hopefully we’ll make it in the next two or three years,”) while Jackson said he was developing a return to horror.

Below, Andy Serkis had a little fun when he came up to the mic incognito and asked a question of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson during the “Tintin” panel at Comic-Con in San Diego, CA on Friday, July 22, 2011.

The best photo by far has to be the one at the ending of the Tintin panel where one lucky fan came on stage to shake Spielberg’s hand – pretty cool!

THE HOBBIT Production Video No. 3 And Jackson’s Message On No Presentation At 2011 Comic Con

The cast and crew share their favorite memories from the first couple of months of shooting THE HOBBIT films! Watch Peter Jackson’s third production video from the set in New Zealand:

Read Peter Jackson’s message on his decision not to show any footage at this year’s Comic-Con, which begins today.

…we won’t be doing any Hobbit presentation at Comic Con in San Diego this year. New Line and Warner Bros were very happy to support a presentation, but I declined, simply because I felt it was too early. There’s so much more of the films still to shoot. I just wanted to get that out there, because I’ve seen various references to the possibility of something Hobbity at Comic Con. Hate to disappoint anyone. But something tells me we will be there in force next year.

THORIN OAKENSHIELD

As a young Dwarf prince, Thorin witnessed the destruction and terror wrought when a great fire-breathing Dragon attacked the Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. After slaughtering many of Thorin’s kin, the great serpent, Smaug, entered The Lonely Mountain and took possession of its vast store of gold and jewels. No-one came to the aid of the surviving Dwarves, and thus, a once proud and noble race was forced into exile. Through long years of hardship, Thorin grew to be a strong and fearless fighter and revered leader. In his heart a fierce desire grew; a desire to reclaim his homeland and destroy the beast that had brought such misery upon his people. So when fate offers him an unusual ally, he seizes the chance for revenge

BOFUR, BOMBUR & BIFUR

While most of the Company of Thorin Oakensheild is related to the royal and noble line of Durin, Bofur, his brother Bombur and their cousin Bifur most definitely are…not. Born and bred in the West, descendants of coal miners and iron workers, they have joined the Quest for the Lonely Mountain partly to seek their fortune and partly because they were told the beer was free.

THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, set for a December 14, 2012 release. The second film, THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN, is slated for release the following year, on December 13, 2013.

Both films are set in Middle-earth 60 years before Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings,” which Jackson and his filmmaking team brought to the big screen in the blockbuster trilogy that culminated with the Oscar®-winning “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.” The adventure of “The Hobbit” follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug.

A second still and Jackson’s latest production video have been released from THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY.

OIN & GLOIN
Distant cousins of Thorin Oakenshield, these two doughty Northern Dwarves join the Company out of a sense of loyalty to their kin, and also because they have a substantial sum of money invested in the venture. Along with Bombur, Gloin is the only other married Dwarf in the Company (there being a shortage of female dwarves in general). His wife is an acclaimed beauty with a particularly fine beard. Gloin is the proud father of a young son, Gimli, who will go on to become part of the famous Fellowship of the Ring.

Peter Jackson Confirms Evangeline Lilly (Lost) Added To THE HOBBIT Cast

THE HOBBIT Casting Update from Peter Jackson via his Facebook page:

Yikes! I can finally get back to some postings!  We’ve finished our first block of shooting and moved straight into location scouting. More on that soon… But today, I’m thrilled to announce two new cast members who will be joining us for our second block of shooting.

Evangeline Lilly will be playing a new character—the Woodland Elf, Tauriel. Her name means ‘daughter of Mirkwood’ and, beyond that, we must leave you guessing! (No, there is no romantic connection to Legolas.) What is not a secret is how talented and compelling an actress Evangeline is; we are thrilled and excited she will be the one to bring our first true Sylvan Elf to life.

I’m also highly excited that Barry Humphries will be portraying the Goblin King, in much the way Andy Serkis created Gollum. Barry is perhaps best known for his business and social connections as the long-time manager of Dame Edna Everage. He has also been an ardent supporter of the rather misunderstood and unfairly maligned Australian politician, Sir Les Patterson. However, in his spare time, Barry is also a fine actor, and we’re looking forward to seeing him invest the Goblin King with the delicate sensitivity and emotional depth this character deserves.

Evangeline and Barry, along with Welsh actor Luke Evans as Bard and Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug, just about rounds out the major casting. I cannot wait to get stuck into these new scenes!

More soon, including a flurry of answers to your questions. Sorry for the delay!

Cheers,
Peter J

Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage & Conan Stevens Join THE HOBBIT

Peter Jackson has announced on his Facebook page a trio of new actors to join THE HOBBIT.

Some more HOBBIT casting news today. As we near the end of our first shooting block (we have a break in less than three weeks to get some editing and visual effects work done, plus prepare for very big scenes coming up), we are looking at characters featuring in sequences that take place a little later in the story.

We are thrilled to confirm that Stephen Fry will be playing The Master of Laketown. I’ve known Stephen for several years, and we’re developing a DAMBUSTERS movie together. In addition to his writing skills, he’s a terrific actor and will create a very memorable Master for us.

The Master’s conniving civil servant, Alfrid will be played by Ryan Gage. Ryan is a great young actor who we originally cast in a small role, but we liked him so much, we promoted him to the much larger Alfrid part.

Last, and certainly not least, is Conan Stevens, who will be playing an Orc called Azog (Orcs are never called Roger or Dennis for some strange reason). And yes that’s his name—Conan! Isn’t that cool? Azog is played by Conan! Here’s a photo of Conan and I together… I’m pretty tall, probably at least 6’5″ or 6’6″ I would guess, so that gives you some clue how tall Conan is!

You can learn all about him at www.conanstevens.com.

Conan Stevens

Got a busy day’s shooting ahead, so I’m about to jump in the car – but look out for the beginning of the 20 questions answers very soon. Thanks for the questions, many are very insightful. I’ve been through all of them and have a list ready to go.

Cheers,

Peter J
