Rourke Starts a WAR OF THE GODS

Another day.  Another blockbuster for Mickey Rourke to gnash his teeth into.  He’s already set to kick a little Downey ass in IRON MAN 2.  Just last week, Rourke officially signed on to play CONAN’s daddy in the new version of that film.  Now, Rourke is absolutely going God-like, as Variety is reporting he has stepped into the role of the villain, King Hyperion, for Tarsem Singh’s WAR OF THE GODS.  Rourke steps into the role against Henry Cavill and Freida Pinto.

The film tells the tale of a young warrior, presumably to be played by Cavill, who leads a group of men in battle against evil gods in order to save humanity.  Something tells me this is going to be more 300 and less LEGION. One can hope, anyway.

The film is set up at Relativity Media with Universal serving as distributor.  The belief that Rourke would quietly slip back into the night after losing the Oscar has proven to be a falsehood.  The man is sticking around, and he’s taking some roles with him.  We haven’t seen him in IRON MAN 2, yet, but here’s hoping he isn’t quickly pigeon-holing himself into these smaller or villainous roles just to earn some notoriety and some fast cash.

WAR OF THE GODS is set to begin production in April.

Who is CONAN’s Daddy, and What Does He Do?

Look at Mickey Rourke in this picture for a bit.  Almost like a chiseled warrior of old (minus the neon green armbands) looking up to Crom asking why the God has forsaken his only son, CONAN.  This could very well be an image we see again, as The Heat Vision Blog has confirmed what Latino Review scooped last month that Rourke has signed on for the small but important role of Conan’s father, Corin.  Rourke will be joining STARGATE: ATLANTIS’ Jason Momoa who has already signed on to play the titular warrior.

With news also coming down the pike that screenwriter Sean Hood has been brought in to do a script polish, it is looking like the CONAN remake is in full swing.  We won’t hold it against Hood that he also wrote HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION, CUBE 2: HYPERCUBE, and THE CROW: WICKED PRAYER.  We’ll just let those little blotches on his resume pass by and see what he has to offer on CONAN.

CONAN is set to begin shooting on March 15th under the direction of Marcus Nispel.  Hopefully it’s more TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE Nispel and not FRIDAY THE 13TH Nispel.  Regardless which Nispel we get, I’m betting there won’t be any neon green armbands involved here.

And boy is it freaking awesome. The trailer premiered on Apple today after the final clue to the IRON MAN II viral was revealed on LatinoReview. Check it out via Apple and leave your thoughts below! LOVING the vibe of this film and it looks like Jon Favreau has potentially done it again. I really hope he follows the other superhero sagas and delivers an epic 2nd chapter. Rourke looks amazing as Whiplash and Cheadle is rocking War Machine in the last few shots of the trailer. Check it out!

Mickey Rourke’s IRON MAN 2 Character Poster Whips It Good

Yeah.   I went there.

This poster comes to us today courtesy of Apple where you can also download a hi-res version.   That means the poster is so friggin’ huge, it spills out of your computer and Rourke’s gold teeth takes a bite out of your lunch.   How’s that for hi-res?

As for the poster itself, it is pretty sweet looking.   Rourke’s Whiplash looks to be a very memorable superhero villain.   You gotta love the whole obsession/CAPE FEAR angle they seem to be rolling with on this character.   Here’s hoping the film is as entertaining as the first one and the villains involved are as smartly written.

IRON MAN 2 hits theaters on May 7th, 2010.   Mickey Rourke owes me a new Wendy’s Spicy Chicken right now.

New IRON MAN 2 Photos Surface

Some new publicity photos for IRON MAN 2 surfaced on IGN.com today involving three of the film’s main characters. The first being the insanely sexy Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, the second is Mickey Rourke as Whiplash taking a look at some broken armor, and the last is Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark himself looking at some kind of box hidden in his floor. Helper is by his side with a map, maybe his father hid something? Still very cool stuff all around.

See Sylvester Stallone Getting ‘Expendables’ Ink Done…

Actually, we can’t guarantee this is a still from ‘The Expendables.’   For all we know, this is how Stallone and Rourke spend their off-days, throwing a few back, tattooing each others names on their backs, punching out Carl Weathers look-alikes.   You know.   Fun stuff.

From what we’re told, though, this is the moment in the film where Stallone gets the skull and raven tattoo we’ve seen in the posters.

Regardless, ‘The Expendables’ comes out on April 23rd, 2010.

Say hello again to Robert and Gwyneth and meet Don Cheadle as Rhodie 2.0 – New character images (not the highest quality) revealed from ‘Iron Man 2’ courtesy of Marvel Movies on Facebook. I’m sure I’ll like Don Cheadle as Rhodie as I usually like everything Cheadle does. I just wish they had cast him in the first place because it’s always annoying when a recurring character goes through change of actors.

First Look at Mickey Rourke in ‘Iron Man 2’

USA Today has unveiled the first look of Mickey Rourke as Whiplash in ‘Iron Man 2.’  The character’s outfit appears to have a power pack similar to Iron Man on his chest and he’s holding what I can only assume are powered whips.

“The technologies are definitely related, and that’s part of the core theme of the film,” says Jon Favreau about Whiplash and Iron Man sharing similar power packs.

The shot from above features the villain’s appearance at Monaco Historic Grand Prix.

Honestly, the outfit is rocking, but I’m really not digging on Rourke’s look.  It looks like Mickey Rourke.  They could have, at least, cut his hair, trimmed his ‘stache, taken out his gold tooth.  There are any number of things they could have done with this character to make him look a bit less like Mickey Rourke.

Whether that all becomes an issue or not will be determined when the film comes out on May 7, 2010.
