Also starting June 8th in NYC, BBQ Films will present the world’s only official immersive screening of Ghostbusters. An event production company that creates transportive experiences and events around classic movies, BBQ Films will invite moviegoers to strap on a proton pack, grab a trap, and head for the Ecto-1 as they bring their immersive Ghostbusters experience to Villain in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Sony Pictures Entertainment will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its blockbuster franchise Ghostbusters with a series of special events and home entertainment releases. As a highlight of the celebration, the original 1984 film has been restored and remastered in 4K and will be returning to the big screen, in over 700 locations in the United States and Canada, for a limited engagement starting August 29 (Labor Day weekend).
Commenting on the announcement, Rory Bruer, president, Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures, said, “Ghostbusters is still one of our studio’s most beloved franchises – I was lucky enough to work on the release of the film on its first run, so it’s a real thrill for me to see that it’s still connecting with audiences everywhere. On the big screen or in home entertainment, this is a great movie to experience again and again.”
Following the theatrical release of the film, on September 16, fans will be able to own the Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray and the Ghostbusters II 25th Anniversary Edition, as that film makes its Blu-ray debut. The Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releases of the films will also be available in a two-disc anniversary edition Blu-ray™ Digibook including both films, as well as a Limited Edition gift set that includes an exclusive collectible Slimer figurine and the two-disc Digibook. This special gift set will only be available for a very limited time, with the collectible Slimer figurine being a true must-have for fans. Both films have been fully restored and remastered in 4K and will be presented in high definition on Blu-ray from those 4K sources.
Both the Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II Blu-rays come loaded with exclusive bonus materials, including revealing conversations with director Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd, as well as never-before-seen deleted scenes from Ghostbusters IIand more. The Ghostbusters anniversary edition features the original music video of the Oscar nominated song “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr., while Ghostbusters II includes the original music video for “On Our Own” by Bobby Brown.
In addition, Ghostbusters will contain all previously released legacy content, commentary and an interactive Slimer Mode, offering fans a picture-in-picture graphical viewing experience.

ParaNorman is set in the town of Blithe Hollow, whose locals profit from mining the town’s history as the site, 300 years ago, of a famous witch hunt. 11-year-old Norman Babcock (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee of Let Me In and The Road) spends much of his days appreciating the finer points of scary movies and studying ghost lore. Beverly Hills Chihuahua Challenge – interactive game show led by Papi
It’s time to extend that practical joke the cast and crew of GHOST BUSTERS and GHOSTBUSTERS 2 are all playing on Dan Aykroyd. Reitman spoke with MTV at the National Board of Review red carpet and confirmed that he would be stepping in as director of the third GHOSTBUSTERS film.
Talking about screenwriters Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, Reitman had this to say about the stage of the screenplay:
They have delivered a draft. We are working our way through another draft… good work is being done and all of us have our fingers crossed.
The goal is for production to begin later this year for a release sometime in 2011.

At this point, I don’t even know if it is considered news. It’s just the latest actor/actress/director/producer/director’s son talking up a potential sequel that, if it was ever going to hit, should have done so ages ago. This time around, we have Harold Ramis talking to Heeb Magazine about much of his career as an actor/director. I’m not even sure if questions about GHOSTBUSTERS 3 even need to be asked. The interviewer just raises his or her eyebrows and raises three fingers as if ordering drinks.
Here’s what Ramis had to say about the potentiality of the film. He seems to think it’s a done deal:
Something’s going to happen. Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future … GB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011.
I still stand by my cynical belief that this is all a ruse against Aykroyd, that Murray, Ramis, Reitman (both of ’em), and Weaver are stifling laughs behind the big guy’s back while gently placing a proverbial “kick me” squarely between his shoulder blades. I didn’t mention Ernie Hudson, there. I think he’s off somewhere awaiting dividends from LEVIATHAN.
As for this GHOSTBUSTERS 3 tripe, pardon the obvious pun, but we’re sorry, Mr. Ramis, we are NOT ready to believe you.
Another week, another rumor going around about what to expect from the possible GHOSTBUSTERS 3. There were early talks that Chris Farley would be in the film. That is how far back these rumors go. I think, at this point, it’s just the staples of the first two films (Bill Murray, Ivan Reitman, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, even Ernie Hudson) all dragging this out seeing how far they can string us (and Dan Aykroyd, who genuinely thinks it’s going to happen soon) along.
Today’s unobtainable carrot bit of information comes from Weaver herself, who was doing interviews promoting AVATAR. She sat down with Channel 4, and the subject of a third GHOSTBUSTERS film was broached. What she had to say was pretty startling and gives some serious spoilers as to what the direction for the next film might be.
Here is the gist. Note, if this does end up becoming true, these could be considered major spoilers for the new film. You were warned.
She hopes people are excited for it.
She is not officially involved, but she has had some offers to read the script.
Her son from GHOSTBUSTERS 2 is likely going to be a Ghostbuster in the new film.
Bill Murray’s character, Peter Venkman, is going to be a ghost.
In all honesty, at this point, I could care less if there is another GHOSTBUSTERS film. The first one is a classic. The second one is funny in parts but, overall, a let-down from the first one. We will always have THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS episodes and the new video game to keep us company. We really don’t need another film, and these plot points, if they are true, don’t do much to sway me the other direction.

Sometimes, a bit of news comes along of which you’re not quite sure what to make. According to Bloody Disgusting, Ivan Reitman, director of GHOST BUSTERS and GHOSTBUSTERS 2, is confirmed for GHOSTBUSTERS 3. It’s probably just better to run some quotes here rather than try to explain his role in the film.
have straight up confirmed, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt that Ivan Reitman, director of Ghost Busters and Ghostbusters II, is in fact attached to get behind the camera for GHOSTBUSTERS 3. While he’s attached, the word is that he hasn’t decided whether or not he really wants to direct, yet.
Does this mean Reitman may be stepping into the role of director of photography on the film with someone else serving as director? If so, it would be Reitman’s first time acting as cinematographer since the 1969, X-rated THE COLUMBUS OF SEX.
Bloody Disgusting also conjured up a synopsis on the new GHOSTBUSTERS film. Evidently, it will take place years after the Ghost Busters headquarters has been shut down. The film would deal with a new threat that forces the paranormal investigators to reopen their doors.
As confirmed throughout the years of the film’s gestation, all principal players will be returning.
