The full-length international trailer for DIANA has come online. Starring Naomi Watts and Naveen Andrews, DIANA is a portrait of the “People’s Princess” during the final two years of her life and her relationship with heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews – Lost, The English Patient).
Vanity Fair features the Princess of Wales in their September issue.
While trying to escape the paparazzi in Paris, Diana, Dodi Al-Fayed, and the driver were killed in a car crash on August 30, 1997.
DIANA is from the director of the Academy Award nominated DOWNFALL, Oliver Hirschbiegel, and writer Stephen Jeffreys (The Libertine). Produced by Ecosse Films’ Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae, the film also features Douglas Hodge, Geraldine James, Charles Edwards and Juliet Stevenson.
Entertainment One will distribute DIANA in UK cinemas on October 10. A US release date has yet to be announced.
In the first teaser for DIANA, we get a glimpse at two time Academy Award nominee Naomi Watts (The Impossible, J. Edgar, 21 Grams, Mulholland Drive) as the late princess.
DIANA is from the director of the Academy Award nominated DOWNFALL, Oliver Hirschbiegel, and writer Stephen Jeffreys (The Libertine). Currently in post-production, this highly-anticipated romantic story explores the last two years of beloved Princess Diana’s life and her relationship with heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews – Lost, The English Patient). The film is produced by Ecosse Films’ Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae. Fellow Brits Douglas Hodge, Geraldine James, Charles Edwards and Juliet Stevenson round out the supporting cast.
Being that I was always a supporter of Diana’s, I’m really looking forward to this film.
The casting of Watts or anyone for that matter is always a risk. Diana is one of these people that you REALLY need to resemble whether it’s a big name (Watts) that looks similar or a no-name that’s a dead ringer.
Hard to believe that on July 1st, Diana would have been 53 and awaiting the birth of her first grandchild.
Entertainment One (“eOne”) announced at the end of May that it has acquired the US rights to DIANA from Embankment Films and Ecosse Films. eOne will also distribute with major releases in the UK, Canada and Spain.
DIANA is expected to hit theatres in the US in late 2013, adding to eOne’s upcoming US lineup which includes; Jim Mickle’s WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, Brian de Palma’s PASSION and Sergio Castellitto’s TWICE BORN.
