John Wick (Keanu Reeves) uncovers a path to defeating The High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes.

The film stars Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, and Ian McShane.

Directed by Chad Stahelski, written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch and based on characters created by Derek Kolstad, JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 opens in theaters March 24.

It was announced in early November Prime Video will launch The Continental, the highly anticipated special event series based on the blockbuster action franchise John Wick. The prequel is produced by Lionsgate Television, and will be exclusively available to Prime Video members worldwide excluding the U.S., Middle East and Israel in 2023.

The Continental is told from the perspective of the hotel manager, portrayed by Ian McShane in the film
franchise – a young Winston Scott, played by Colin Woodell (The Flight Attendant). Throughout the series, viewers will follow Winston through the underworld of ’70’s New York, where he will battle demons from his past as he attempts to seize control of the iconic hotel – a hotel that serves as a meeting point for the world’s most dangerous criminals.

Woodell is joined by Mel Gibson (Braveheart), as Cormac; Ayomide Adegun (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes), who will portray a young Charon (based on the character portrayed by Lance Reddick); Ben Robson (Vikings) as Frankie; Hubert Point-Du Jour (Dr. Death) as Miles; Jessica Allain (The Laundromat) playing Lou; Mishel Prada (Vida) as KD; Nhung Kate (The Housemaid) as Yen; and Peter
Greene (Training Day), who dons the fedora of Uncle Charlie (based on the tight-lipped body disposal expert).

The John Wick films have grossed nearly $600 million worldwide to date, with each film outperforming its predecessor.

Win Passes To The Advance Screening of JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2 In St. Louis

Final One Sheet

In this next chapter following the 2014 hit, legendary hit man John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.

After unleashing mayhem on the criminals who killed his dog, retired super assassin John Wick retrieves his beloved 1969 Mustang from the Russian mobsters who stole it, only to be pursued in a spectacular high-speed car chase through crowded New York City streets. Returning home, John’s plans to resume a quiet civilian life are cut short when Italian gangster Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio) shows up on his doorstep with a gold “marker” compelling him to repay past favors. Ordered by Winston (Ian McShane), kingpin of secret assassin society The Continental, to respect the organization’s ancient code, John reluctantly accepts the assignment to take out Santino’s own sister, Gianna (Claudia Gerini), the ruthless capo atop the Italian Camorra crime syndicate.

Flying to Rome, John checks in at Il Continentale headquarters, arms himself to the teeth and penetrates heavy Camorra security to surprise Gianna in her bedroom. Leaving dozens of dead thugs in his wake, John flees Rome with trained Camorra killers Cassian (Common) and Ares (Ruby Rose) in hot pursuit.

Back in New York, John discovers that Santino has burned his home to the ground. Seeking help from the mysterious Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) and his shadow army, John employs Brazilian jiujitsu, Glocks and even pencils as he wreaks vengeance against those who’ve wronged him. Amid the carnage, John finds the strength he needs to defy the assassin’s code — but can he preserve his own humanity?

JOHN WICK – The Blu Review

johnwick1

When Michael Haffner reviewed JOHN WICK here at We Are Movie Geeks, he wrote: “WICK soars at being both a perfect example of how to construct an exciting action film as well as being a fine example of how style over substance isn’t always a bad thing.” (read all of Michael.s review HERE)

johnwick3

I wasn’t so impressed with the film when I saw it at the theater myself. I found it a stale, John Woo knockoff with paper-thin characterization and repetitive action sequences. Watching Keanu Reeves as Wick happening upon completely unbelievable scenarios over and over again, pulling a gun out and killing everyone, seemed like something I’d seen a million times.

johnwick5

But I enjoyed JOHN WICK more upon a second viewing when I watch the new Blu-ray releases from Lionsgate. The movie doesn’t take itself seriously and that is exactly how I should have approached it. This movie is not about logic. The story is basically comic book, video game, and fantasy action all the way and if taken in the right spirit, it’s a lot of fun. JOHN WICK was the first feature from co-directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, but their 20 years as stunt coordinators in Hollywood clearly taught them a valuable lesson that prepared them for the job: efficiency is everything when it comes directing pure action. Because Staheleski and Leitch make optimal use of the resources at their disposal, never overindulging in stylistic excess for the sake of self-serving spectacle, the $20 million-budgeted JOHN WICK appeared to have a higher production value and greater artistic sophistication than most of its bloated $100 million competitors.

johnwick4

JOHN WICK is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Lionsgate Films on February 3rd

The JOHN WICK  Blu has presents an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 2.40:1. The image is crystal clear with sharp, pinpoint details and no major technical flaws. The cinematography is often bathed in blue or green light so flesh tones are expectedly a little pale but fit in with the rest of the transfer. Black levels are of a high quality. The JOHN WICK blu simply looks great.

JOHN WICK features a pounding Dolby Atmos audio track (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 core – To experience Dolby Atmos at home, Dolby Atmos enabled AV receivers and additional speakers are required; however, Dolby Atmos soundtracks are fully backward compatible with traditional audio configurations and legacy home entertainment equipment). Music is strong and smooth, with a powerfully natural and dominant presence. Big, heavy effects often rule the day, with gunfight and explosions throughout while the ambient effects are somewhat limited but nevertheless engaging.

The Blu-ray and Digital HD bonus materials include six exclusive featurettes that take a detailed look at different aspects of the film including the intense stunts, incredible action sequences, the stylized look and locale of the film, establishing the world of John Wick and a discussion with director Chad Stahelski and producer David Leitch on how they made this action film their way.

  •   “Don’t F*#% With John Wick” featurette
  • “Calling in the Cavalry” featurette
  • “Destiny of a Collective” featurette
  • “Assassin’s Code” featurette
  • “Red Circle” featurette
  • “NYC Noir” featurette

The Blu-ray also includes an audio commentary with the filmmakers.
