SHALL WE DANCE Saturday Morning at the Hi-Pointe – Classic Film Series

shallwedance

Q: “What are the grounds for divorce in this state? “

A: “Marriage.”

Shall-We-Dance13

No – it’s not the Richard Gere/ Susan Sarandon film from 2004. That was a remake of the same-named 1996 Japanese film. Both of those films had grammatically correct titles ending in question marks but this is The Hi-Pointe’s Classic Film Series so of course it’s the 1937 SHALL WE DANCE starring the great team of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

shall2

In SHALL WE DANCE Fred Astaire played Peter Peters, an American ballet dancer who’s known as Petrov. He wants to blend classical ballet with modern jazz, and when he sees the picture of tap dancer Linda Keene (Ginger Rogers of course), he immediately falls in love with her. Before they know it, they’re married. Or at least the press thinks so. SHALL WE DANCE was the seventh of the ten Astaire-Rogers movie. This confection has the usual slight plot of the team’s films, but the musical numbers and the charisma of the two stars more than make up for the implausibilities. The supporting players Eric Blore and Edward Everett Horton add their unique brands of comedy relief. Behind the music were the brothers George and Ira Gershwin. The most famous number in this film is “Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off“, which is concluded by Fred and Ginger doing their famous roller skate dance. “Slap That Bass”, “Beginner’s Luck”, “They All Laughed” and “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off” are among the other popular tunes on hand.

shall3

Now you’ll have the chance to see SHALL WE DANCE in all of its big screen glory when it screens this Saturday morning (June 14th) at St. Louis’ fabulous Hi-Pointe Theater. The movie starts at 10:30am and admission is only $5.

But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

The international cast also includes Bill Paxton, Brendan Gleeson, Noah Taylor, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, Franz Drameh, Masayoshi Haneda and Tony Way.

Liman directed EDGE OF TOMORROW from a screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie and Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth, based on the novel entitled All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

This movie has been rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi action and violence, language and brief suggestive material.

The Producers Guild Elect Gary Lucchesi And Lori McCreary As Presidents

pga_logo_13

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced today its 2014 National Board and officer election results, which were shared during the Guild’s annual General Membership Meeting tonight on the Warner Bros. Studios lot. The Producers Guild elected Gary Lucchesi and Lori McCreary as Presidents. Other newly PGA national officers include: Vice Presidents of Motion Pictures David Friendly and Lydia Dean Pilcher; Vice Presidents of Television Tim Gibbons and Jason Katims; Treasurer Christina Lee Storm, and Vice President PGA East Region Peter Saraf.

Outgoing PGA Presidents Mark Gordon and Hawk Koch, who served since 2010, received special recognition at the meeting for their unwavering service to the Producers Guild over the years, including their seminal advocacy on behalf of the Guild’s credit certification, the Producers Mark.

“We are extremely honored and excited to begin this new chapter with the Producers Guild,” said McCreary and Lucchesi. “We have seen numerous positive changes over the past four years as a result of the hard work of our Presidents, the PGA National Board and its committee members. We hope to continue to build upon the great work of our predecessors and to protect the rights of our industry’s hardworking producers.”

Gary Lucchesi has served as the PGA’s Vice President of Motion Pictures for the past four years as well as co-chaired the Produced By Conference for the past four years. He

Lori McCreary has served as the PGA’s National Treasurer for the past two years as well as co-chaired the 2014 PGA Awards with Michael De Luca. Her upcoming projects include the untitled Diane Keaton/Morgan Freeman film and the CBS series “Madam Secretary.” He began his career at the William Morris Agency, representing Kevin Costner and Michelle Pfeifer and then went onto become President of Production at Paramount where he oversaw notable films such as GHOST, THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, THE NAKED GUN SERIES and THE UNTOUCHABLES

McCreary and Lucchesi’s election marks the second time the Guild’s nominating committee has selected a pair of members to stand for election together as Presidents, following Mark Gordon and Hawk Koch. The only other time the Guild has been governed by a pair of presidents was from 2001 – 2002, following the PGA’s merger with the American Association of Producers, when the Guild was overseen by Kathleen Kennedy and Tim Gibbons. The 2014 election represents the first time the PGA has nominated pairs of candidates for its Vice Presidential offices.
