The office party was festive, but soon interrupted by drama.
Hans Gruber and his men, had forced their way in,
And taken everyone hostage, trapping them within.

John McClane had arrived, to win back his wife’s love.
He would take them all out, winning everyone’s praise,
Welcoming Christmas Day, with his favorite catchphrase.

YIPPEE KI YAY!

DIE HARD (1988) is one of the best and most iconic action films from Hollywood. Bruce Willis starred as NYPD Officer John McClane, who tries to save his wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) and several of her co-workers and friends after being taken hostage by German terrorist Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman )and his henchmen during a Christmas party at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles.
Willis’ witty and deadpan delivery personality, coupled with his never-say-die attitude and relentless attacks on the villains made him a force to be reckoned with, giving us a tough yet comedic performance. Most of DIE HARD takes place inside the Nakatomi Plaza, where you will find all the heart-pounding action as Gruber terrorizes his hostages and tries to rob the treasures within the building the process, while McClane takes on his henchmen one-by-one.

die-hard-original-machine-gun
Alan Rickman did a wonderfully devious performance as Gruber, calm and crafty but cold enough to generate no sympathy. Bonnie Bedelia did a great job as Holly Gennaro – gentle, yet fearless. And, Reginald VelJohnson was memorable as Sgt. Al Powell. Highlights are Powell communicating with McClane inside the building, giving him the will to stay tough with all the bad guys around him. With DIE HARD, Director John McTiernan gave us a sly, witty, realistic and sometimes dramatic action-thriller that is just as intense and riveting today as it was in 1988 and better than most or all of the big-class mimickers that have been released since.

Don’t miss it when it screens Saturday Night, December 22nd, at Midnight at The Hi-Pointe Theater

St. Louis-Shot Horror Film THE MAN IN ROOM 6 “Seed & Spark” Fundraising Campaign Launched

Support you local filmmaker! As a part of the film’s newly launched crowdfunding campaign, Live or Die Productions in association with Middle West Movies has released a new teaser video and promotional stills for the upcoming art-house horror film THE MAN IN ROOM 6 starring Bill  Oberst Jr. and Jackie Kelly.  This marks the first time Oberst has worked with director, Trevor  Juenger since 2014’s COYOTE.

The ‘Seed & Spark’ Fundraising campaign for THE MAN IN ROOM 6 has been launched and can be found HERE.  A Facebook page can be found HERE

Check out the new teaser trailer for THE MAN IN ROOM 6:

THE MAN IN ROOM 6 tells the story of Carrie (Jackie Kelly), a socially-troubled young woman trying to mend a strained relationship with her mother.  After her grandfather dies in a nursing home, Carrie finds herself attracted to William (Bill Oberst Jr.), an elderly man in a neighboring room.  William’s doctor offers Carrie a part-time position with the nursing home to keep tabs on the old man. William shares a series of tall tales from his life as a younger man.  He claims to be immortal, cursed to never die, but to grow old and sick.  Before he can finish his final tale, William mysteriously disappears, and Carrie is implicated in his murder. Carrie is committed to a girls’ asylum where tensions grow between herself and her childhood psychologist (David Wassilak) until Carrie must escape the facility at any cost.  Unable to separate reality from fantasy, Carrie conjures the ghost of William to finish his tales and aide her escape.

“I feel we have something truly unique to offer the genre,” said Juenger. “It’s exciting to finally find the right role for Oberst.  He’s always creepy and captivating, but this character has the potential to be iconic.” Crowdfunding Campaign The release of this new teaser video comes on the heels of the recent launch of the film’s crowdfunding campaign on Seed&Spark.

Seed&Spark allows contributors to fund independent  films directly without creative interference from studios.

“It’s essential for a film like this.  It gives us opportunities to work outside established formulas that produce stale genre films.  Independent films are tough to get off the ground and funded.  It’s amazing to have so many viable platforms to connect directly with the fans.”

The campaign is offering memorabilia, early screenings, and for the first week of the campaign, personalized photos that place contributors in a scene from ‘The Man in Room 6’. The Man in Room 6 Availability

GREMLINS and GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH Screening This Saturday at The St. Andrews in St. Charles with Voice Actor Mark Dodson

Hulk Hogan: “Okay you guys, listen up! People pay good money to see this movie! When they go out to a theater they want cold sodas, hot popcorn, and no monsters in the projection booth! Do I have to come up there myself? Do you think the Gremsters can stand up to the Hulkster? Well, if I were you, I’d run the rest of Gremlins 2! Right now! Sorry folks, it won’t happen again!”

GREMLINS and GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH are screening This Saturday, December 15th, at the St. Andrews Cinema in St. Charles, MO (2025 Golfway St, St Charles, MO 63301). The doors open at 2:00pm and the first film starts at 2:30. Admission for both films is $5. GREMLINS will be introduced by Mark Dodson. Mark was the voice of Salicious Crumb in RETURN OF THE JEDI and Mogwai in GREMLINS. His other voice credits include DAY OF THE DEAD and STAR WARS THE FORCE AWAKENS. A Facebook invite for the event can be found HERE

GREMLINS (1984) is a fabulous flick, because it somehow manages to be both a sentimental good-natured modern-day fairytale, and an uproariously riotous comic horror film that stomps all over the nice wholesome image of Christmas and small-town America. The script by Chris Columbus is simply fantastic – all the characters are nicely drawn, the Three Rules Of Gremlins are brilliant, and there are whole scenes which are simply priceless – the evocative Chinatown opening, the Peckinpah-esque kitchen massacre sequence, Kate’s phenomenal “Why I Hate Christmas” speech, Mrs Deagle’s grisly demise and the Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs spectacle, to name but a few. This is one of those rare examples of a film where everything just gels together perfectly – Joe Dante’s gleefully insane direction, Jerry Goldsmith’s alternately soothing and teeth-grating score, wonderful camera-work by John Hora and eye-popping special effects puppetry by Chris Walas – Gizmo and Stripe are not just props in this movie, they are real characters who give performances with more depth than a lot of A-list actors I could name. The rest of the cast shine; Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates (one of the cutest young actress of the eighties) are extremely appealing, Hoyt Axton is terrific as the hapless inventor dad, Miller hilarious as the xenophobic neighbour Mr Futterman, and Luke is unforgettable as the wise old grandfather. Look out also for an unbilled bit by Dante alumni Kenneth Tobey and executive producer Steven Spielberg in a rare cameo appearance.

With the sequel, Dante took everything that was great about Gremlins and cranked it all the way up to a zillion. The original movie was a dark xmas comedy horror with B-movie undertones. The sequel was so over-the-top it launched itself into the stratosphere and doesn’t come back down until the very, very end of the credits. It’s just wall-to-wall mayhem with so many in-jokes it’ll make your head explode. GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH even attempts to begin as a Looney Tunes cartoon.

These are brilliantly-made, wonderfully wicked horror comedies,  equal parts intriguing, funny, gross, touching and scary, so don’t miss them when they play this Saturday at the St. Andrews.
