See The Trailer For Director Beth de Araújo’s SOFT & QUIET From Blumhouse And Momentum Pictures

Playing out in real time, SOFT & QUIET is a runaway train that follows a single afternoon in the life of an elementary school teacher, Emily, who organizes an inaugural club meeting of like-minded women. When they all decide to move the meeting to Emily’s house to keep the wine flowing, they stop at the local store to pick up refreshments. At the store, an altercation breaks out between a woman from Emily’s past and the group, leading to a volatile chain of events.

SOFT & QUIET is written and directed by Beth de Araújo. Of her film, which premiered at SXSW, she says, “as artists, it is not our job to provide solutions. We are not policy makers. The job of the artist is to tell the truth as we see it and feel it.” The cast features Stefanie Estes, Olivia Luccardi, Eleanore Pienta, Dana Millican, Melissa Paulo, Jon Beavers, Cissy Ly.

de Araújo says, “I don’t want to provide you relief. You’re not watching monsters nor ‘those racists over there’. You’re watching human beings do monstrous things; that’s what makes us so dangerous. Maybe that monster, the potential monster, and the concept of white supremacy lives in you and in all of us.”

Beth de Araújo is a writer and director featured in Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film. Her Moth story, Don’t Move, based on her feature screenplay, Josephine, participated in the 2018 Sundance Directors Lab.
