Female Empowerment!!! One-Night Advance Screening MAIDEN June 24th
Sony Picture Classics will host one-night advance screenings of the acclaimed female empowerment documentary MAIDEN on Monday, June 24th in theaters across the country. The film will screen in the top 50 major markets and will include a recorded Q&A with subject Tracy Edwards. The film is scheduled to open mid-July in St. Louis.
Sony Pictures Classics announced today they will host one-night advance screenings of the acclaimed female empowerment documentary MAIDEN on Monday, June 24th in theaters across the country. The film will screen in the top 50 major markets and will include a recorded Q&A with subject Tracy Edwards. The film will be released in theaters on Friday, June 28th.
The gripping and inspirational story of the first all-female crew to enter an around the world yacht race has been playing to standing ovations around the world. After it’s triumphant premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, the film went on to win over audiences at the Sundance, SXSW and Tribeca Film Festivals. Edwards “leaned in” before there was a Lean In movement.
MAIDEN (the film) has partnered with influential female groups including the Girl Scouts of Greater New York and Girl Scouts of LA, The Jane Club, and The Women’s Image Network to present Edwards inspirational story to audiences of all ages.
Maiden is currently docked in New Zealand and will embark on June 9th for Hawaii before heading to the West Coast of the States.
Directed by Alex Holmes (STOP AT NOTHING: THE LANCE ARMSTRONG STORY), MAIDEN is the story of how Tracy Edwards, a 24-year-old cook in charter boats, became the skipper of the first ever all-female crew to enter the Whitbread Round the World in 1989. Tracy’s inspirational dream was opposed on all sides: her male competitors thought an all-women crew would never make it, the chauvinistic yachting press took bets on her failure, and potential sponsors rejected her, fearing they would die at sea and generate bad publicity. But Tracy refused to give up: she remortgaged her home and bought a secondhand boat, putting everything on the line to ensure the team made it to the start line. Although blessed with tremendous self-belief, Tracy was also beset by crippling doubts and was only able to make it through with the support of her remarkable crew. With their help, she went on to shock the sports world and prove that women are very much the equal of men.
