24th Annual ST. LOUIS JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL Begins June 2nd
The 24th Annual St. Louis Jewish Film Festival opens with two exciting films on Sunday, June 2nd at the Landmark Plaza Frontenac Cinema. The first film at 4:00PM is called Carl Laemmle, a documentary film about the founder of Universal Pictures, a rags to riches story of a poor immigrant who became a Hollywood movie mogul and a man who saved 300 German Jewish families during the Holocaust.
The opening day continues at 7:00pm with Golda’s Balcony, The Film with special guest Dave Fishelson, and producer of the original Broadway production. Starring Tovah Feldshuh as Golda Meier, the film version of the Broadway play follows Golda’s journey from Russian immigrant to leader of international politics as Prime Minister of Israel.
The St. Louis Jewish Film Festival continues through Thursday, June 6 with its celebration of Jewish life through 16 documentary and feature films. While all films depict a slice of the Jewish experience, the films are universal and meant to be appealing to all, regardless of faith.
Remarkable historic figures (Joseph Pulitzer: Voice of the People, ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances (Reinventing Rosalee and Prosecuting Evil. Films are brought to life in comedy (The Unorthodox), dramas (A Fortunate Man, mysteries (Winter Hunt and The Other Story) and a thoughtful, poignant family comedy/drama Shoelaces. Features originate from Denmark, France, Germany, Israel, Poland and the United States.
All films will screen at the Landmark Plaza Frontenac Cinema (Lindbergh & Clayton Road). Ticket prices vary. An Opening Day feature ticket costs $15 each or purchase the double feature for $26. Tickets for weekday films are $12 in advance and $13 at the door. Or, purchase a four-pack of weekday films for $45. Student tickets (age 16 and under) are $8 for weekday films and $10 for opening day.
