ONE TOKE OVER THE LINE AND STILL SMOKIN’ by St. Louis filmmaker Kathy Corley celebrates the folk-rock duo Brewer & Shipley, whose Top 10 song “One Toke Over the Line” was a constant presence on the radio in the 1970s. The pair’s other hits include “Tarkio Road” and “Shake Off the Demon.” Michael Brewer and Tom Shipley — who both live in Missouri — continue to blend guitars and voices and perform for audiences 50 years after their trademark vocal harmonies and intertwined acoustic guitars carved a unique niche in America’s soundboard. Brewer & Shipley just celebrated their golden anniversary as a recording duo: Their first album, “Down in LA,” was released in October 1968.
