’80s Slasher Madness! BLOOD RAGE Midnights This Weekend at The Moolah
“That’s not cranberry sauce… “
BLOOD RAGE (1987) screens Midnights this weekend (November 24th and 25th) at The Moolah Theater and Lounge (3821 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63108) as part of Destroy the Brain’s monthly Late Nite Grindhouse film series.
“Twins Todd and Terry (both played by Mark Soper) seem like sweet boys that is, until one of them takes an axe to face of a fellow patron at the local drive-in. Todd is blamed for the bloody crime and institutionalized, whilst twin brother Terry goes free. Ten years later and, as the family gathers around the table for a Thanksgiving meal, the news comes in that Todd has escaped. But has the real killer in fact been in their midst all along? One thing’s for sure, there will be blood and rage”…..Such is the synopsis for BLOOD RAGE, a 1987 slasher flick that I’ve never seen. I do recall the artwork on the VHS box at local video stores decades ago and perhaps I even rented it (the ‘80s are a blur), and it does co-star Louise Lasser, who was once married to Woody Allen and appeared in five of his films, so it looks promising. A slasher film is defined as a horror film typically involving a psychotic killer stalking and killing a sequence of victims in a graphically violent manner, often with a cutting tool such as a knife or an axe. The guys at Destroy the Brain have offered up dozens of these to be rediscovered on the big screen at Late Night Grindhouse over the years. It’s hard to argue that the 80s wasn’t the pinnacle of the slasher genre so perhaps BLOOD RAGE is an unheralded slasher movie from that decade that deserves retroactive respect and reverence. I’ll find out this weekend at The Moolah and so should you!
