35mm Print of Wong Kar-Wai’s 2046 Screening Thursday at Webster University
“Whenever someone asked why I left 2046, I always gave them some vague answer. It was easier.”
A 35mm print of director Wong Kar-Wai’s 2046 (2004) screens Thursday May 4th at Webster University’s Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood). The movie starts at 7:00pm.
Picking up where after In the Mood for Love left off, 2046 follows Chow Mo Wan (Tony Leung Chiu-wai), a serial womanizer. Wan moves from being a gambler to a pulp fiction writer experiencing liaisons with several beautiful women. 2046 is a visually stunning journey through memory and regret. In Cantonese, Japanese, and Mandarin with English subtitles.
The critics in 2004 loved 2046:
“…Quite simply an incomparably sublime work of art, a triumph of lyricism over narrative in the cinema, and the most exquisite homage to the beauty of women it has ever been my privilege to witness on the screen.”
“….Seductive and luscious, a cinematic smorgasbord of sensuous delight.”
“….Wong offers an artful meditation on the nature of love, making effective use of color schemes (yellows, greens and reds), placid shotmaking and diverse music to deliver a sultry portrait of postwar Hong Kong.”
Admission is:
$6 for the general public
$5 for seniors, Webster alumni and students from other schools
$4 for Webster University staff and faculty
Free for Webster students with proper I.D.
