AMPAS announced on Friday that no live event will be taking place at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills or any other Academy offices during the annual announcement of the Oscar Nominations. As a result, the press will not be there as usual.

AMPAS Press release:

We’ve got exciting news.

To welcome our new class of nominees, several Oscar®-winning and nominated Academy members including Jennifer Hudson, Brie Larson, Emmanuel Lubezki, Jason Reitman and Ken Watanabe will join Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs to reveal the 89th Oscars® Nominations, on Tuesday, January 24, beginning at 5:18 a.m. PST/8:18 a.m. EST/1:18 p.m. GMT/9:18 p.m. CST.

In a departure from our tradition of a live audience at the Academy, this year’s nominations will be announced via a global live stream on Oscar.com, Oscars.org, the Academy’s digital platforms, a satellite feed, and local broadcasters, including “Good Morning America.”

We invite you to celebrate our 89th Academy Awards® with us, and to share in a terrific new Oscar season.

Previously members of the press, both global and domestic (including WAMG) have been treated to breakfast before making our way up to the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre for the nominations. Even though this is a major change, we are looking forward to the new way AMPAS presents the Oscars Nominations announcement.

Late-night talk show host, producer and comedian Jimmy Kimmel will host the 89th Oscars to be broadcast live on Oscar Sunday, February 26, 2017, on the ABC Television Network. This is Kimmel’s first time hosting the global telecast.
