Varèse Sarabande will release the EDDIE THE EAGLE – Original Score Album digitally on March 11 and on CD March 25, 2016.

The album features the delightful original music by Matthew Margeson. It’s a great score by the composer of KICK-ASS 2 and KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE (Interview)

“We wanted to create a period score for Eddie,” Margeson described. “The film is set in the ‘80s and the goal was to create a throwback ‘80s score. I knew it was going to be a fun task from the get-go and it was.”

Inspired by true events, EDDIE THE EAGLE is a feel-good story about Michael “Eddie” Edwards (Taron Egerton), an unlikely but courageous British ski-jumper who never stopped believing in himself – even as an entire nation was counting him out. With the help of a rebellious and charismatic coach (played by Hugh Jackman), Eddie takes on the establishment and wins the hearts of sports fans around the world by making an improbable and historic showing at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics.

“I ended up going on craigslist and eBay and getting a bunch of old digital synthesizers from the time period,” said Margeson. “I played all of the keyboards, and did the programming of the synths myself. We did have some guitar and bass players, and some live woodwinds for a few of the emotional moments.”

Matthew Margeson is an American composer who has contributed music to some of the most memorable films of the last 10 years, including Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), X-Men: First Class (2011), Wreck-It Ralph (2012), Captain Phillips (2013), Into The Woods (2014), Kick-Ass (2010) & Kick-Ass 2 (2013), Fox’s smash hit Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015), and Paramount’s Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015).

The score for his first studio feature, Universal’s Skyline (2010), led to a nomination for the BSOSPIRIT Revelation Composer Award at the Úbeda Film Music Festival. Multi-talented and versatile, Margeson has also worked on a variety of successful television series and video games, including HBO’s EASTBOUND AND DOWN, and Sony Playstation’s ALL-STAR BATTLE ROYALE and KNACK. His music can also be heard on both the Universal Studios and Warner Brothers backlot tram tours.

Margeson is currently composing the score for Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiars.
