Weekend Box Office Results For Sept. 11 – 13
THE PERFECT GUY (Sony Pictures) came in at number one at this weekend’s box office with an estimated $26.7 million.
After a painful breakup, successful lobbyist Leah Vaughn (Sanaa Lathan) jumps into a passionate relationship with a charming stranger (Michael Ealy). When her ex-boyfriend (Morris Chestnut) resurfaces in her life she has to figure out who she should trust and who she should fear.
With WAR ROOM at number one last week and STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON number one the three previous weekends, films led by African-American casts have now led the box office for five consecutive weeks.
M. Night Shyamalan’s THE VISIT (review) was a close second with $25.7 million. The film sits at 62% on Rotten Tomatoes and presently has the biggest horror opening of 2015. Scott Weinberg (Nerdist) says, “the end result is the director’s best film in quite some time and represents a big win for M. Night Shyamalan.”
Continuing to do well at the box office is MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION.
Rentrak’s Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented, “Tom Cruise continues to thrill audiences around the world as Paramount’s summer hit, ‘Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation’ adds another $91.3 million this weekend with its debut in China powering the film to over $600 million global box office. Notably, one week ahead of its North American debut, Fox’s ‘Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials’ is off to a great start in 21 international territories with $26.8 million.”
