THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES Takes The #1 Spot For First Weekend of 2015

The first weekend of 2015 saw THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES in the number 1 spot at the Box Office.
Rentrak’s Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented, “Warner Bros.’ Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” hits another major box office milestone as it crosses the $500 million mark internationally, thus pushing its global tally to a whopping $723 million.”

AMERICAN SNIPER is still in limited release and averaged $160,000 per theater (opens wide on Jan. 16). Playing only at four theaters, A MOST VIOLENT YEAR brought in $300,000 in its first 5 days at the box office. Worldwide, Ridley Scott’s EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS sailed passed the $200 million mark.
Universal’s SEVENTH SON and 20th Century Fox’s TAKEN 3 opened overseas to $18.6 million and $9.5 million, respectively.
Next weekend sees the wide release of Paramount Pictures’ SELMA from director Ava DuVernay as well as Warner Bros. Pictures’ INHERENT VICE.
