THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY – The Blu Review
Based on Richard C. Morais’ novel, adapted by screenwriter Steven Knight and director Lasse Hailstrom, THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY told the tale of the Kadam family, who leaves India for France where they open a restaurant directly across the road from Madame Mallory’s (Helen Mirren) Michelin-starred eatery.
When Jim Batts reviewed THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY here at We Are Movie Geeks, he wrote:
“the actors are wonderful, the story’s entertaining if familiar, and the meals are a feast for the eyes. THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY is a warm, heartfelt serving of cinematic comfort food that should hit the spot for most ‘movie foodies’…..”

THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY is served up on home video by Disney/Buena Vista in a Blu-ray/ Digital HD combo pack December 2nd and We Are Movie Geeks got a sneak taste of it.
Image:
Mastered in 1080p and sized at the movie’s original 2.39:1 aspect ratio, the BD for THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY looks outstanding. Detail is plentiful, with strong resolution and lovely coloring. The movie maintains a filmic look without giving up any of the sharpness. Skin textures look natural, and dark scenes have good, inky shadows. There is a lot of warmth and color to the movie, but I’m happy to report that it never becomes oversaturated or overly bright, despite the rather lush French locale.
Sound:
The original soundtrack has been mixed in 5.1 as a DTS-HD Master Audio track. Dialogue is clear, music is good, and there are lots of nice little touches in the back speakers and to the sides to give a sense of environment and ambience.
Extras:
THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY with Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey – The famed producer pair sit down and discuss their first collaboration since THE COLOR PURPLE.
The Recipe, the Ingredients, the Journey – Enters the enchanting world of the film, with stunning locations, a beautifully crafted story, and food that will make you hungry for home and the spice of life.
On Set with her highness Oprah Winfrey
Coconut Chicken – a yummy extra that shows how this beautiful, Indian-inspired dish is made.
