Shia LaBeouf, Kate Mara, Gary Oldman Set To Star In Psychological Thriller, MAN DOWN
Shia LaBeouf (TRANSFORMERS, upcoming FURY), Emmy nominee Kate Mara (Netflix’s “House of Cards,” upcoming THE FANTASTIC FOUR) and Oscar nominee Gary Oldman (DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES) are set to star in the psychological thriller, MAN DOWN, it was announced today by producers Dawn Krantz (DOONBY), Stephen McEveety (THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST) and Jon Burton (THE LEGO MOVIE).
Dito Montiel (A GUIDE TO RECOGNIZING YOUR SAINTS, FIGHTING) will direct from a screenplay by Adam Simon (SYNAPSE).
Currently in pre-production, principal photography is scheduled to start on October 30th in Louisiana.
The Solution Entertainment Group (“The Solution”) is handling international rights and will present the project to buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel from The Solution are also executive producing the projectalongside Roger Goff. Also slated to executive produce are Russell Geyser and Clay Pecorin. Patrick Hibler will co-produce the feature film.
The film tells the story of a haunted Afghanistan war veteran who attempts to come to terms with his past while searching for his family in a post-apocalyptic America.
“When I read this script for the first time I knew it was something very special. We are so thrilled to be able to have put together such an exemplary cast with an outstanding Director to tell the story, “ said Krantz.
“Given the current landscape of packaging an independent film, we’re ecstatic to come on board MAN DOWN which is a high-quality project with a superb, A-list cast attached. We are certain our international buyers will embrace this tense thriller at Toronto,” said Wilson and Nestel.
Dito Montiel made his feature film debut with A GUIDE TO RECOGNIZING YOUR SAINTS, based on his best-selling memoir of the same name with Robert Downey Jr., Shia LaBeouf and Channing Tatum. He won the Directing Award and Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. He has also directed FIGHTING and THE SON OF NO ONE, both starring Tatum and the latter of which closed the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, as well as EMPIRE STATE. His most recent film BOULEVARD, featuring Robin Williams, premiered at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival. William Morris Endeavor represents Montiel.
Shia LaBeouf is known to audiences for his performance as Sam Witwicky in Michael Bay’s mega blockbuster franchise, TRANSFORMERS. He also starred opposite Harrison Ford in Paramount’s INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL and shared screen time with Robert Redford in THE COMPANY YOU KEEP. He recently appeared in Lars von Trier’s NYMPHOMANIAC: VOL I and VOL 2 and will next be seen in Columbia Pictures’ FURY with Brad Pitt, due in theatres on October 17th.
Kate Mara delivered a memorable performance as Zoe Barnes starring opposite Kevin Spacey in Netflix’s critically acclaimed TV series, “House of Cards,” which led to a 2014 Emmy nomination. She will next appear on screen as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman in THE FANTASTIC FOUR reboot set for release in June 2015 via Twentieth Century Fox.
Gary Oldman can currently be seen in theatres in Twentieth Century Fox’s box office hit DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. His iconic roles include playing Commissioner Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT trilogy opposite Christian Bale as well as Sirius Black in Warner Bros. multi-billion HARRY POTTER franchise. He was nominated for an Oscar for his lead role in TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY.
