Italian Film Festival USA of St. Louis concludes this weekend with THE WOMEN WORKERS’ WAR and BALANCING ACT
THE WOMEN WORKERS’ WAR screens Friday April 25th in Steinberg Hall on the campus of Washington University at 6:30pm
The story of longest factory sit-in by women, led by Rosa Giancola of Latina, and a factory that «churns out sweets and thoughts» led by Margherita Dogliani of Carrara. The documentary recounts the story of two women who are «very special and react in profound and non-conventional ways to the economic and moral crisis that grips Italy». The documentary THE WOMEN WORKERS’ WAR won an award at the Workers Unite! Film Festival di New York.
BALANCING ACT screens Friday April 25th in Steinberg Hall on the campus of Washington University at 8:00pm
Giulio is forty years old and leads an apparently peaceful life. He lives in a rented apartment, has a steady job, a car purchased in installments, a rebellious but nice daughter, a sweet son who’s a dreamer, and a faithful and loving wife. She discovers Giulio’s affair, leaves him and his fairy-tale life suddenly crumbles. But what happens to a couple who “dare” separate from each other in this day and age? Through a wide array of events that are at times tragic and at times ironic, BALANCING ACT takes us hand-in-hand into the world of a man who suddenly discovers how thin the line between well-being and poverty truly is.
Variety says of BALANCING ACT:
“….this heartbreaking tale of an essentially decent husband and father, whose life falls apart after an extramarital tryst, is leavened by its Roman sense of humor and a superlative, arguably career-best perf from comedian-thesp Valerio Mastandrea”
