MOTEL HELL Midnights This Weekend at The Hi-Pointe
“It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent’s Fritters”
For this weekend’s Late Night Grindhouse, the madmen at Destroy the Brain are offering up the 1980 classic MOTEL HELL, a hilarious, offensive, inventive and twisted foray into happy go lucky cannibalism land. Farmer Vincent (Rory Calhoun) and his sister Nancy (Ida Smith – who played Mrs Balbricker in PORKYS) kidnap passing motorists and fatten them up in their garden to convert them into tasty snacks for travelers who stop in at the cozy Motel Hello. As farmer Vincent Smith says, “There’s too many people in the world and not enough food. Now this takes care of both problems at the same time.” MOTEL HELL’s twisted little storyline and fun antics make for a hell of a good time. I saw MOTEL HELL on the big screen over 30 years ago when I was in college and I look forward to seeing all its gore, cannibalism, kidnappings, murder, the climactic chainsaw duel, and the horrible rock band called Ivan and the Terribles on the big screen again. If you like your horror with a bit of dark humor you’re not going to want to miss MOTEL HELL when it plays this weekend as part of Destroy the Brain’s Late Night Grindhouse Midnight series at St. Louis’ fabulous Hi-Pointe Theater (1005 McCausland Ave, St. Louis) this Friday and Saturday nights (March 7th and 8th). Admission is $7 and the preshow begins at 11:30
