Solution Entertainment Group Picks Up International Rights To INFINITELY POLAR BEAR Starring Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana,
The Solution Entertainment Group will handle international rights to Emmy-Award nominated writer Maya Forbes’ directorial debut INFINITELY POLAR BEAR starring Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo (THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT) and Zoe Saldana (STAR TREK), it was announced today by The Solution Entertainment Group’s (“The Solution”) founders and partners, Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel.
The film will make its world premiere at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Dramatic section. ICM Partners will be handling US rights.
The film is produced by Emmy-winning Wally Wolodarsky along with Paper Street Films’ Benji Kohn and Bingo Gubelmann (HAPPYTHANKYOUMOREPLEASE) and Park Pictures’ Sam Bisbee and Galt Niederhoffer (ROBOT & FRANK).
The film is executive produced by Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk, Paper Street Films’ Austin Stark, Soaring Flight Productions’ Ruth Mutch and Park Pictures’ Jackie Kelman Bisbee.
The year is 1978, and the Stuart family is struggling to hold it together. Cameron, a bipolar father (Ruffalo), has had a nervous breakdown that leaves him unemployable, and Maggie, a hardworking mother (Saldana), can’t quite make ends meet. Despite Cameron’s aristocratic pedigree and the couple’s top-notch education, they’re broke. When Maggie decides to accept a scholarship to pursue her MBA in New York, she must leave her daughters, Faith and Amelia, in Boston with their now-somewhat-convalesced father. So begins an untamed, unpredictable, 18-month experiment as eccentric, exuberant Cameron takes over primary parenting of his precocious, sensitive little girls.
“INFINITELY POLAR BEAR is an exceptional directorial debut from writer Maya Forbes and features knock out performances from Ruffalo and Saldana. Audiences are going to love this film and we look forward to showing it to international buyers at the upcoming Berlin Film Market following its Sundance debut,” said Wilson and Nestel.
“We couldn’t be prouder of what Maya, Mark, Zoe, and the INFINITELY POLAR BEAR team have achieved. The Solution is known for their commitment to supporting only the best films and filmmakers, which is why we are thrilled to have Lisa and Myles on board to introduce our film to international buyers,” said Kohn.
Forbes previously co-wrote the screenplays for DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: DOG DAYS, MONSTERS VS. ALIENS, THE ROCKER and SEEING OTHER PEOPLE. She has been nominated for four Emmys as a writer and executive producer for the long-running, award-winning HBO series “The Larry Sanders Show.”
Ruffalo was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT. He is most known for his role in Marvel’s THE AVENGERS as Bruce Banner, and will reprise his role in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON to be released by Disney in 2015. He next stars in The Weinstein Company’s CAN A SONG SAVE YOUR LIFE? co-starring Keira Knightley and Bennett Miller’s FOXCATCHER with Channing Tatum and Steve Carell. His other feature film credits include NOW YOU SEE ME, SHUTTER ISLAND, ZODIAC and RESERVATION ROAD.
Saldana can currently be seen in Fox Searchlight’s OUT OF THE FURNACE directed by Scott Cooper opposite Christian Bale and Casey Affleck and will next appear in Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, coming to theatres in August 2014. She is known for her ground-breaking performance in James Cameron’s worldwide box office phenomenon AVATAR. Her other roles include leads in the STAR TREK franchise, COLOMBIANA and THE WORDS.
In addition to INFINITELY POLAR BEAR, The Solution’s slate at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival includes LAGGIES, directed by Lynn Shelton and starring Keira Knightley, Chloë Grace Moretz and Sam Rockwell debuting in the “Premieres” section and COOTIES with Elijah Wood, Allison Pill and Rainn Wilson in the “Midnight” section.
