GRAVITY Still No. 1 At Box Office
Once again audiences flocked in droves to see Warner Bros. Pictures’ GRAVITY making it the No. 1 film in the world for the third consecutive weekend. With an estimated weekend gross of $64.5 million from 52 markets, its worldwide cume now stands at a massive $282.8 million in only 17 days of release.
Academy Award winners Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”) and George Clooney (“Syriana”) star in the heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. The film was directed by Oscar nominee Alfonso Cuarón (“Children of Men”).
Meanwhile this week’s newcomers, CARRIE, ESCAPE PLAN and FIFTH ESTATE, were duds coming in with $17 million, $9.8 million and $1.7 million respectively.
Opening in select markets this weekend with a $97,400 from six theaters was ALL IS LOST. The film will bow in St. Louis theaters this coming Friday.
Considered a frontrunner for a Best Actor nomination in this year’s Oscar race, Robert Redford stars in the open-water thriller about one man’s battle for survival against the elements after his sailboat is destroyed at sea. Written and directed by Academy Award nominee J.C. Chandor (Margin Call) with a musical score by Alex Ebert (Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros), the film is a gripping, visceral and powerfully moving tribute to ingenuity and resilience.
Next weekend’s new entries are THE COUNSELOR from Twentieth Century Fox and JACKASS PRESENTS: BAD GRANDPA from Paramount Pictures.
