Go Lightly to BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S Midnights This Weekend at The Tivoli
It’s a bit disheartening looking at the cast of BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S and realizing that of its main stars, only Mickey Rooney is still alive. Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard, Buddy Ebsen, Martin Balsam, John McGiver, Alan Reed Jr., Stanley Adams, and Dorothy Whitney are all gone, as well as director Blake Edwards, screenwriter George Axelrod, and no doubt the cats who played “Cat”.
Based on the novel by Truman Capote (also deceased), BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S tells the story of Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) a well-scrubbed bohemian girl who lives how she wants to live – she has all-night parties, the world’s longest cigarette holder, and owns a cat with no name. She meets her new neighbor Paul(George Peppard) in the apartment building she lives in and the two become friends and later in the film find themselves falling in love.
Though I’ve never seen it, BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S is an iconic film. The classic Andy Williams standard ‘Moon River’ comes from this film (the score is by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer )and there was even a later musical hit song about this movie in the ‘90s. BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S will be playing midnights this weekend at The Tivoli Theater in St. Louis as prt of their Reel Late at the Tivoli Midnight series. I hope it gets a good crowd, though these type of classics have hardly been packing them in. MEAN GIRLS and SPICE WORLD have played midnights recently to large crowds but not CASABLANCA or VERTIGO. I know the Tivoli late-night crowd is an 18-25 demographic so if you’re the parents of St. Louis teens, encourage them to take in a classic this weekend! Tickets are only $8!
The Tivoli’s located at 6350 Delmar Blvd., University City, MO. Admission is a mere $8!
