Watch The First 5 Minutes Of MADEMOISELLE C
As we head into that hallowed season of award shows and red carpets overflowing with spectacular designer gowns, what better time than to open a new documentary on the world of high fashion.
Carine Roitfeld ran French Vogue for 10 years, building a reputation as one of fashion’s most influential movers. Her inner circle of friends includes Donatella Versace, Tom Ford, Karl Lagerfeld, Mario Testino, Riccardo Tisci, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Alexander Wang.
Yet few people outside the fashion world have heard of her…until now.
MADEMOISELLE C chronicles Carine’s launch of her new magazine, “CR Fashion Book.” It gives a rare inside glimpse at the inner workings not only of Roitfeld’s professional world but also her personal life. It is a film about transition, letting the audience watch as she moves to New York, starts a new business, and prepares to become a grandmother. And of course, it’s filled with the models, celebrities, and eccentric personalities that make the fashion world so entertaining.

When asked about fashion in movies, Carine Roitfeld remarked:
So far, I have yet to see fashion as I see and know it projected in a feature length film. Not The Devil Wears Prada, not Prêt-à-Porter by Robert Altman, not even The September Issue. I liked Who Are You, Polly Magoo by William Klein for its funny, quirky moments and I loved Dim Dam Dom, directed by Jean-Christophe Averty in the 60s; but that was a TV show. It was the first fashion-oriented show that I was allowed to watch as a child. I remember that I already knew I wanted to work in fashion, but I was afraid to say so because I was worried that people would think I was very superficial.

On the 3 “Fairy Godfathers”:
I’m thrilled that Ricardo Tisci, Tom Ford, and Karl Lagerfeld are in the movie. I spend a great deal of time with those three artists. I’m also happy J.W. Anderson is in it. I think he is the biggest talent of the future. It was hard to convince Tom Ford to do it. He’s more of a ball breaker than I am. On the other hand, the movie shows a side of Karl that people haven’t seen. There’s a scene where he is pushing my granddaughter around in a stroller will probably end up on YouTube because no one thinks of him in that way. Karl is very sweet with children, and much more tender than people believe.
Directed by Fabien Constant, MADEMOISELLE C opens September 11th in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and Dallas.
