The Joes are back in action in G.I. JOE: RETALIATION. The film hits theaters on Friday and stars Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson, and Channing Tatum! The Geeks are here to give away prizepacks over the next three days from the film.
Over the last 49 years, G.I. Joe has become the most recognizable icons in the American toy history. Born out of one simple concept, an articulated figure that’s ready for adventure. G.I. Joe gave entire generations of boys a whole new way to play. “Action figure” became a household word and GI Joe an American icon. He’s evolved with our culture and become part of our history.
1964. GI Joe was born. His namesake inspired by Robert Mitchum’s Academy-Award nominated, “The Story of G.I. Joe.” In a world dominated by metal figurines, the action figure was an entirely new concept with 21 moving parts and 75 different products. G.I. Joe sold over 2 million units in its first year.
By the 1970’s, G.I. Joe went from military man to adventurer, aquanaut and astronaut. The adventure team was born.
1974. G.I. Joe sported the famous Kung-Fu Grip and in 1985, following 2 successful miniseries, the animated “G.I. Joe – A Real American Hero” debuted on tv. Against the ruthless Cobra enemy – Duke, Scarlett, Ripcord and Snake Eyes – led the elite fighting unit against the Cobra Forces of Cobra Commander, Destro, Baroness and Storm Shadow.
In the early 2000’s, G.I. Joe expanded even further with “Spy Troops: The Movie, “ “Valor vs Venom” and “Sigma Six”. In August of 2009, G.I. Joe went to the big screen with the first live-action, full feature theatrical movie – G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA.
