Red-Band Trailer For HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS (3D)

Hell is unleashed in the new red-band trailer for HANSEL & GRETEL WITCH HUNTERS, from Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures. After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches…their past.

Depending on your tastes and age, these new horror twists to the classic tales have appealed to some movie goers, but does it translate into bankable box office bucks? SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, MIRROR MIRROR and RED RIDING HOOD had poor to middling reviews while a warm reception to JACK THE GIANT KILLER, PINOCCHIO and MALEFICENT remains to be seen.

BAFTA nominee Gemma Arterton is perfect for this genre. She was a Bond girl in QUANTUM OF SOLACE, delightful in TAMARA DREWE and her latest work can be seen in director Neil Jordan’s BYZANTIUM – the 2012 British fantasy thriller film about a mother and daughter vampire duo. So how about the Oscar-nominated Jeremy Renner? I’d have thought he moved past this genre after his appearance in such monster hits as MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL and THE BOURNE LEGACY.

This modern spin is produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Kevin Messick, Beau Flynn and written and directed by Tommy Wirkola (DEAD SNOW). Also featuring Famke Janssen and Peter Stormare, HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS 3D will be in theaters on January 2013.
