PLAYING FOR KEEPS Trailer – In Theaters December 7th
By Daniel Schindel
Here’s the trailer for PLAYING FOR KEEPS, formerly titled Playing the Field (not much of an improvement in making the movie not sound totally generic), starring Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel. It’s interesting how Butler has been able to successfully bounce between roles as hard-edged action heroes and dashing romantic comedy leads. Here he’s obviously on the latter side, playing a former soccer star trying to connect with his son and ex-wife/girlfriend. As expected of a film that is, in theory, heartwarming and bubbly, the trailer features a good deal of gently rolling cymbal cues, inspirational music, and wacky gags giving way to more somber moments before turning upbeat again just as it ends. Check it out for, and judge for yourself if this movie might be worth seeing
Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Uma Thurman, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Dennis Quaid star in PLAYING FOR KEEPS, a romantic comedy about a charming, down-on-his luck former soccer star (Butler) who returns home to put his life back together. Looking for a way to rebuild his relationship with his son, he gets roped into coaching the boy’s soccer team. But his attempts to finally become an “adult” are met with hilarious challenges from the attractive “soccer moms” who pursue him at every turn. PLAYING FOR KEEPS is directed by Gabriele Muccino, the director of “The Pursuit of Happiness.”
Also starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Dennis Quaid, Uma Thurman and Judy Greer, PLAYING FOR KEEPS opens in theaters on December 7th, 2012.
