The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards; THE DESCENDANTS & THE ARTIST Top Winners
The “biggest party of the year” was filled with stars from television and film as the winners were announced at the 69th Golden Globe ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. THE ARTIST and THE DESCENDANTS were the big winners of the night, hosted once again by the outrageously funny Ricky Gervais. Fox Searchlight Pictures’ film won 2 for Best Picture Drama and Best Actor for George Clooney while the Weinstein Company’s tribute to the silent film era brought home three globes for Best Picture Comedy/Musical, Best Actor for Jean Dujardin and Best Original Score for Ludovic Bource. 7-time winner Meryl Streep won Best Actress for THE IRON LADY and, going in with 5 noms, Octavia Spencer nabbed THE HELP’s only award for Best Supporting Actress. The nicest surprise of the evening was Martin Scorsese’s triumphant win for his direction of HUGO.
