Casting
Caine To Make A JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH In Sequel
THR is reporting that Oscar-winner Sir Michael Caine is in final negotiations to join the cast in the sequel of JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH. Caine will team up with Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson for JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND.
Brad Peyton is directing the movie, which is moving toward an October start and is being produced by Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson of Contrafilm.
The script, loosely based on Jules Verne’s “The Mysterious Island,” sees Hutcherson reprising his role from the first movie and partnering with Johnson, playing his mom’s boyfriend, on a trip to a mythical island to find his missing grandfather.
Caine is the grandfather, but the part is no cameo. The role will see the actor in action mode, engaging in several chase sequences, including one involving giant bees.
Not bad for the 77 yr-old thespian. His recent action/thriller roles were HARRY BROWN and Christopher Nolan’s INCEPTION.
