Peter Sollett Taking in RUNAWAYS
THE BREAKFAST CLUB with superheros? How has this not been done before? Well, evidently, it has, as Marvel Comics’ Runaways has been around since 2003. Now, Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures are bringing this series to cinematic light, and it looks like NICK AND NORA’S INFINITE PLAYLIST director Peter Sollett may be behind the camera. Deadline Hollywood is reporting the director is in negotiations on the deal in a move that sounds vaguely like Sony Pictures bringing in (500) DAYS OF SUMMER director Mark Webb to take on the new SPIDER-MAN movie.
No casting has been put in place, but expect a group of unknowns to fill the roles of various teenagers who find out their respective parents are comic book evildoers. They run away, and, using their newfound abilities, decide to form a group of superheros. It sounds much like KICK-ASS, only these kids CAN fly, walk through walls, and read your mind.
Sollett wrote, produced, and directed 2002’s RAISING VICTOR VARGAS before taking on the under-appreciated NICK AND NORA. While the budget on RUNAWAYS doesn’t look to be anything staggering, expect his credit to skyrocket if the film takes off.
