Joss Whedon AVENGERS Bound
What a strange choice Marvel Studios has made today, but one that is sure to have comic book fans frothing at the mouth. They have selected a man who is known more for his TV series writing than for his feature film directing, a man who only has one feature film under his belt. Said feature film, for all intents and purposes was a financial dud, at that.
According to Deadline, final negotiations are underway to bring Joss Whedon in as director of the THE AVENGERS film, the film that will be the culmination of IRON MAN, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, CAPTAIN AMERICA, and THOR. This could be considered quite the coup by people who were adament that Jon Favreau would be the perfect choice, or even any of the other directors behind these singular films before they all joined forces Voltron-style to take out the competition a the box office.
Whether the fanboy anxiety for this film can hold steady until THE AVENGERS comes out in May of 2012 is anyone’s guess. It seems ages ago that THE INCREDIBLE HULK came out, and neither CAPTAIN AMERICA nor THOR have had their own chance at doing one-on-one battle for moviegoers dollars. While Whedon is someone who I am sure will do absolute justice to the property he has been given, it is quite the odd choice given his history. We shall see.
