AVATAR 2 Headed for the Ocean

Because it’s been a few months since we’ve talked about AVATAR, let’s get into some business with the planned sequel.  In promotion for the film’s release on DVD (it comes out tomorrow, April 22nd), director James Cameron sat down with LA Times’ Hero Complex to divulge a few tidbits on the film’s follow-up.

Here’s what he had to say:

Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment – a different setting within Pandora. And I’m going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won’t be a rain forest.

While many of us believed the first AVATAR was weak on story, the level of thought that went into the world of Pandora and the creatures and plant life that inhabited it were undeniable.  With Cameron an avid, deep sea enthusiast, it is going to be very interesting to see what kind of strange lifeforms he is going to come up with for an oceanic adventure with the Na’vi.

Cameron also makes mention of a proposed third film in the AVATAR series, with each film expanding on Alpha Centauri AB system.
