McTeigue Still Wants SUPERMAN
In a recent interview with MTV, NINJA ASSASIN director, James McTeigue briefly opened up regarding his ambitions to make a new SUPERMAN film with WB. The franchise is in a strange place due to rights being tossed around, and the overall failure of Bryan Singer’s SUPERMAN RETURNS (which I still enjoyed quite a bit, despite its flaws).
It’s in a weird place at the moment,” McTeigue told MTV News. “They’re trying to work out what they’re doing. Warner Brothers is trying to figure out their next move on it. There’s some things you can do with the ‘Superman’ franchise, there’s other things you can’t do. So it hasn’t gone anywhere. I think it’s ripe for a retooling,’ he said. “I would love to — if it happened, I would at least start a conversation about it.
Well? Sounds like he would really love to be on board! I loved V for VENDETTA and I have yet to see his latest, NINJA ASSASIN, but I really enjoy this idea of McTeigue rebooting the franchise. I truthfully do hope that they steer clear from an origin story in this film, simply because it has been done to death, but other than that, let’s see something new! I was really into Mark Millar’s idea of a 9-hour SUPERMAN film that he presented last year and it would be very cool to see McTeigue tackle something in the more mainstream superhero genre. I don’t know if I want the dark/grit of THE DARK KNIGHT for SUPERMAN, only because it then becomes practically the same film with different characters, but I would love to see a different spin on the franchise. In other words, I would love to see McTeigue pull a Nolan and revamp the series and show us a SUPERMAN that we aren’t 100% acquainted with. Check out the video interview from MTV below.
I am a complete Batman fanboy, but I still have love for the Man of Steel. Do you guys want to see James McTeigue tackle a new Superman film?
