Review: COCKHAMMER (NSFW)
Kevin Strange and the Hack Movies family have returned with their newest cinematic endeavor into low-budget, uncensored debauchery… and our review begins with this warning:
This film contains scenes depicting violence, gore, nudity, profane language, and a generally distasteful, albeit good-natured, sentiment. If this sounds like the type of film you’d rather not get into…
STOP WATCHING NOW!
Ladies and gentlemen, take fucking heed! Kevin Strange is NOT jerking around this time. Strange has pulled out all the stops. COCKHAMMER, the fifth feature film from Hack Movies, marks the dawn of a whole new era from one of the most daring, productive and controversial underground filmmaking troupes in the Midwest.
Chances are, if you’re a fan of Hack Movies, or this genre of film in general, you’ve already heard of Kevin Strange and his COCKHAMMER. With that said, we want to whole-heartily apologize for getting this review of the film up so damn late. See, the DVD dropped on July 17, 2009. So, I can only admit we’ve been some naughty little procrastinating assholes. Then again, better late than never… right?
If you’re new to the demented, twisted mind of Kevin Strange and his insane imagination then I welcome you into a ride you’ll not soon forget. COCKHAMMER is the tale of two dope-smoking, freaky sex-obsessed degenerate slackers named Terrence and Perander. These two sorry excuses for human beings find their infinitely more intelligent girlfriends abducted by the evil, mentally-deranged lunatic Cockhammer. He’s a master of the dark arts and is Hellbent on acquiring all the power of the Black Mage Diary. Terrence and Perander’s hoes are soon to become “virgin” sacrifices, but will their loser boyfriends be able to put down the ganja and rescue their bitches from Cockhammer before they end up the ultimate ingredient in his diabolical plan for total domination of the universe?
Kevin Strange continues to hone his craft, while stretching the boundaries of bad taste and good humor. Strange has been developing a style of writing all his own. The writing in COCKHAMMER, which has evolved throughout the Hack Movies filmography, contains a language unique to anything else you’ve heard. Much like Tarantino crafts his films on paper with a beat and linguistic style of his own, Strange has his own one-of-a-kind style. Imagine John Waters was gang raped by the Insane Clown Posse and the illegitimate love child was adopted and raised by Lloyd Kauffman, then possessed by the spirit of Ed Wood, consumed mass quantities of acid-laced shrooms and decides one day to make movies. Then, we just may be able to start to understand the inner working of the mind of Kevin Strange.
COCKHAMMER is a comedy of the richest vulgarity, combining genre elements of supernatural horror and the criminal underworld. But, first and foremost, the movie is meant to make us laugh… or, vomit until we can’t stand to watch anymore. It all depends on your personal preference. The production quality of the Hack Movie films continues to increase and COCKHAMMER is their Pièce de résistance so far.
Constantly working to heighten the quality of the special make-up effects and props used in his films, Strange has really stepped it up in this newest project. Especially in the end, once Cockhammer transforms into an otherworldly deformed aberration of hyper-sexual demonic beast. He has taken foam, latex and Karo syrup to a whole new level of sick and twisted. Sure, the movie is still low-budget and that’s clear, but it’s also half the charm.
COCKHAMMER has a bit of everything to please the psychotic urges of all fans, from blood and guts, to sex and violence, equal opportunity nudity, profanity and obscenity, comedy and drama and stupidity, perversions, drugs and more drugs, hired assassins and pedophiles, movie references, a book of the dead (of sorts) … it’s all right here, in one movie!
COCKHAMMER can be purchased on DVD at Amazon.com or from the Hack Movies website.
