30 DAYS OF NIGHT Sequel Starts Production
I’d like to take this time to express how much I really like 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. Highly suspenseful and even a little bit scary a time or two, the film delivered exactly what it set out to deliver. While it’s not a great film by any stretch of the imagination, it certainly isn’t predictable, repetitive and vile as Richard Roeper described it.
So, having said that, why am I not more excited that a sequel has begun principal photography? I’ll tell you why. Because this is Ghost House throwing a follow-up together with about as much forethought as shotgun wedding. It’s going to be straight to DVD (this is already planned), it features actors you’ve rarely seen recently outside of secondary TV roles, and the premise just sounds like a direct-to-DVD premise. Granted, it is based on Dark Days, the follow-up graphic novel that features Stella travelling to Los Angeles to seek out and destroy more vampires. That doesn’t mean it should be adapted to film, particularly if you’re not getting Melissa George back to play the lead character.
30 DAYS OF NIGHT: DARK DAYS stars Kiele Sanchez (“Lost”), Diora Baird (THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING), Rhys Coiro (“Entourage” and “24”), Mia Kirshner (“The L Word”) and Harold Perrineau (“Lost” and “Oz”). Production is taking place in Vancouver under the direction of first-time feature film director Ben Ketai. A street date has not been announced.
