‘Titanic’ Getting 3D Redux

Sometimes, $600 million just isn’t enough money.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Cameron’s ‘Titanic’ is less than a year away from seeing 3D re-release.   This bit of news comes from Cameron’s own Lightstorm Entertainment, and, evidently, tests have already been run on the potential of transferring ‘Terminator’ and ‘Terminator 2’ to 3D, as well.

Says Jon Landau of Lightstorm:

We are certainly interested in exploring the opportunity to rerelease some of Lightstorm’s past films in 3D.   I don’t think it’s too far into the future. We’re pretty far down the road.

With films like ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Toy Story 2’ already seeing 3D re-releases in the near future, the trend of 3D filmmaking is looking to retro itself out very soon.   If these early tests prove to be successful, look for many more studios to re-release classics from their film library in 3D.

Says Nikki Rocco of Universal:

I know we’re all watching this to see if there’s something there.   The uniqueness of 3D definitely brings something different to the table. But right now it’s wait and see.

‘Toy Story’ and ‘Toy Story 2’ get their 3D re-releases on October 2nd.   There is no date set for ‘Titanic’s re-release.
