RIP Patrick Swayze Dies at 57
“He’s not coming back in.”
Patrick Swayze has died at 57. He fought pancreatic cancer for nearly two years, but, according to his publicist, Annett Wolf, Swayze died monday with family at his side. He came forward about his illness last spring, but continued working as he underwent treatments.
Most remember Swayze from such modern classics as ‘Ghost’ and ‘Dirty Dancing,’ but we here at We Are Movie Geeks will always hold Swayze dear in our hearts as both Dalton in ‘Road House’ and Bodhi in ‘Point Break.’
In his career, Swayze was nominated for three Golden Globe awards for ‘Dirty Dancing,’ ‘Ghost,’ and ‘To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar.’
Swayze claimed in a Barbara Walters interview in January of 2009 that he was “kicking it” in reference to his disease. He continued working throughout his illness, appearing as the lead in the A&E series “The Beast.”
He was married to actress Lisa Niemi in 1975. The two stayed married for the remainder of his life. They have no children.
Our hearts and thoughts go out to Swayze’s family. He will truly be missed.
In his honor, we leave you with an image from one of the lighter moments in Swayze’s career. We hope it makes you laugh.
