Jason Bateman Talks ‘Hancock 2’ and ‘Arrested Development’
He says one is happening, and regarding the other, he’s shocked to even hear reports about it. Heather over at Coming Soon had an opportunity to sit down with Jason Bateman, and the subjects of two, potential, upcoming films came up, ‘Hancock 2’ and ‘Arrested Development.’
Here is what Bateman had to say about ‘Hancock 2’:
No one has contacted me or anybody that represents me to ask if we were interested. I don’t know anything about it. It’s surprising to me that Variety would write that story because they’re usually pretty well vetted before they report something and that was completely false. I haven’t heard anything about it. The whole thing about me being on board could not be farther from the truth. I would love to be a part of the film, but I haven’t heard anything about it.
In all fairness to Variety and the people behind ‘Hancock 2,’ I don’t remember Bateman’s name getting thrown about at all in context with that film. That’s not to say that he won’t come on board sometime down the line. With Peter Berg working on ‘Dune’ and ‘Battleship,’ who knows when work on ‘Hancock 2’ will officially start?
Bateman also talked up the long-awaited ‘Arrested Development’ film:
It’s still being written and my guess is that is will be shot some time next year. I have a feeling that Mitch [Hurwitz] is halfway done writing it. We’ll probably shoot it middle of next year and then for however long things take to get cut and marketed, so maybe the first part of 2011 I would imagine. That’s just a guess.
Again, I hate to dispute or call into question anything Bateman is talking about, but an ‘Arrested Development’ movie has been “next year” ever since the show went off the air in 2006. But, while an official announcement may be long away, fans of the show can rest easy knowing that the people behind it are still all about a feature film version if and when that day comes.
