Ridley Scott’s ‘Brave New World’ Coming Together

It’s been over a year since speculation came about that Ridley Scott would be adapting Aldous Huxley’s ‘Brave New World’ as his next project.   Now, it seems that the film project is finally getting some steam, as it appears this will be Scott’s next film before he returns to the ‘Alien’ franchise.   Risky Biz Blog is reporting that the film has been set up at Universal.   Scott will produce and is likely to direct, while Leonardo DiCaprio is also producing with the possibility of starring in the film.

‘Apocalypto’ scribe Farhad Safinia has been brought on to adapt the 1932 novel by Huxley which is set in a Utopian future where there is no violence and the population has been split into five castes.   The leads are a socially outcast man and an accepted woman.   The man becomes infatuated with the woman and attempts to break through the social barriers between them.

This will be a perfect opportunity for Scott to get back into the world-creating game.   With recent films disappointments like ‘A Good Year’ and ‘Body of Lies’ under his belt, it might be a good idea for him to go back to the style of his earlier career.   With news that he is on board to the direct the prequel to ‘Alien’ and now ‘Brave New World,’ it seems like the Ridley Scott of old might be showing his face once again.

Scott is currently shooting ‘Robin Hood,’ but has no projects set up afterward.   Likewise, DiCaprio is shooting ‘Inception’ under the direction of Christopher Nolan, but he has nothing in the works after that.   The two are also teaming up as producing partners on ‘The Low Dweller’ for Relativity.
