Could ‘Halloween 3’ Be Coming in 3D?
While Rob Zombie’s ‘Halloween II’ didn’t rake in the cash as much as I’m sure the Weinsteins were hoping, that isn’t stopping them from already talking about a third film. This bit of information comes from Yahoo! Movies in their discussion about the weekend box office.
The Weinstein Co. plans to release “Halloween 3” in 3-D next summer, said Bob Weinstein, who co-founded the company with brother Harvey. While Zombie will not be back to direct, the next sequel will pick up from his story and give a new twist on slasher Myers, Weinstein said.
Is this decision based on the fact that ‘Halloween II’ lost the weekend to ‘The Final Destination’ by nearly $11 million? ‘The Final Destination’ is the latest in a long streak of 3D movies opening well, and the trend of films being released in 3D seems to be picking up ample amounts of steam left and right. I’m sure the pool of money being generated from 3D horror is something the Weinsteins are going to want to get their hands on sooner rather than later.
It’s no surprise that Zombie will not be returning for the next ‘Halloween’ film, particularly if the Weinsteins and Dimension plan to have the film out by next Summer. Zombie previously mentioned he will be beginning work on a remake of ‘The Blob’ starting early next year.
