Universal Bringing ‘The Lorax’ to Life
Universal Studios and Illimunation Entertainment are continuing with the Dr. Seuss feature film adaptations. ‘The Lorax’ will be a 3D animated film much in the vein of last year’s ‘Horton Hears a Who!’ Chris Renaud, story artist for ‘Horton,’ along with ‘Horton’ screenwriters Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio will be serving as co-directors on the film. Paul and Daurio will also be serving as screenwriters on the film.
‘The Lorax’ tells the “green” story of an entrepreneur who strips a forest full of its trees despite warnings from a small creature known as the Lorax. The film is tentatively scheduled for release on March 2nd, 2012. Coincidentally, this will be the birthday of Seuss, real name Theodor Geisel, who died in 1991.
“Ted Geisel was prescient in an uncanny way when he wrote the book and explored themes of greed and how that can lead to the destruction of environment,” says producer Chris Meledandri.
