Twitter Ruins ‘Moon’s Plot Twist
Just a little over 30 minutes ago I had tweetdeck open and I noticed a tweet from comedian Doug Benson. I’m not going to repeat the tweet because it was a lame joke that gave away the twist to one of my favorite films this year, ‘Moon’.
‘Moon’ is a movie that’s entire premise is surrounded in mystery. By the trailer it appears to be about a man on the moon who’s going to go home in a few weeks after a long stint of mining all alone with his computer as his only companion. But the entire premise of the movie is the twist. When it comes to a movie like Moon the less you know the better. It’s one of those films that you simply need to experience with a completely blank slate, and zero information.
Sadly some stoners can take something like twitter and completely ruin the premise of a film with a simple post. It’s annoying to think that there’s some one following this inconsiderate comic, who’s going to stumble onto the tweet and put 2 and 2 together and realize what the movie is really about. Not only that, but Benson’s joke makes the movie sound bad, and simplistic, which it is not.
In Benson’s desire to be funny, witty, and be heard, he ruined a truly great film, with a good buzz, and a lot of heart for many many people. If ‘Moon’ had a huge distribution deal, and was showing all over the place, then I might be a little less upset, but the fact is, this film isn’t playing everywhere. Many people are only going to experience this film for the first time on DVD or cable, years from now, and to ruin it before it’s theatrical run has even really picked up is just a DICK MOVE.
Think before you tweet!
Doug Benson is my epic fail of the day. I actually stopped following him as a result of his stupid move. I suggest you do the same, before he ruins any more plot twists.
In good news for ‘Moon’, the film’s amazing score by Clint Mansell is on sale starting tomorrow on iTunes according to a twitter by the film’s director Duncan Jones.
Follow Up:
I woke up this morning to fin that Doug Benson had removed the tweet. Sadly he followed it up with this:
“I withdrew my #eightwordsorless review of MOON because one guy got mad at me for not spoiler alerting. #mostpeoplehaventevenheardofMOON”.
I guess he didn’t realize that that “one guy” worked as a film critic.
